Well, the game is up now. Unfortunantly the site has crashed... ;D
Edit: The site's back up. Turns out that link I gave you WAS the official patch.

The "can't connect to server" has changed to "InternetExeption 12057". Googling it turns up with nothing (well, apart from other pepole asking about it on CDProject's forum). With luck I'll get to play it tomorrow... Übereil

Here's the FAQ for doing the Witcher: EE Upgrade.A lot of the sites are slammed right now with crazy-slow DL'ed, as expected. You might want to look for mirrors out there, if those ain't slammed yet. From what I know...Patch 1.4 is like around ONE GB. Each language pack is around 600 MB. Music extras are like 1.2 GB.

Fileshack and fileplanet and many other sites have it now, after today they all shouldn't be so slammed...this morning was hell though. Someone on the witcher forums also posted rapidshare links, which I used. Observations so far (from about 5 hours with the EE): Dialogue scenes are much more dynamic; Geralt and other characters move around and look much less wooden and lifeless during conversation. The shots change angles and distance throughout as well. Luckily old save games are compatible, so I just kept trucking through with my current game, which I had put on hold since hearing about the upcoming EE release. Because of this though, I haven't compared the actual dialogue scripts between the old and new. Load times: well...80% faster load times was announced, but I think that's stretching it. Maybe 80% faster than the original, unpatched game. But from the previous patch, it's not that dramatic of a difference. Entering and leaving a house, for example, can still take up to 10-15 seconds, but I am on a PC just above the minimum requirements here. I haven't had a chance to play the side adventures or explore the other bonus content, but kudos to the developers for making it available to previous owners the way they have!

Patch 1.4 is like around ONE GB. Each language pack is around 600 MB. Music extras are like 1.2 GB. The patch is 900 MB and takes about half an hour with decent speed. The language pack is 500 MB. Sure, it's a big upgrade, but it's an expansion pack free to download! I haven't gotten far, since I realized I wanted stuff like herbalism and identify monsters when I'd allready done all the places where I wanted these things. I'm planning on making that my last restart until I finnish the game though. Currently I'm running around in the first village. I'm still pleasing them influential members of the village. The game's still in the early stages, I expect it to pick up pace once I'm done in the village. I like the game so far, the combat flows nicely while still feeling involving. In the conversations it's obvious Atari didn't do a 100% proper job. You can see in the subtitles that not all the lines are implemented in the speech, and those lines are enough to make the conversations feel rushed. Besides, because of this you don't have time to acually read the unimplemented lines, which is annoying. The acuall conversations are sufficient though, with a few funnies from time to time. It's just a pity Atari prevented them to reach their full potential, if they'd done their job they would have been really good. They're not bad, but you're constantly reminded that they shouldn't be as brief (proper word?) as they are. All in all it's a good games. They just need to throw in a few puzzles and I'm happy. As for the character creation I'm planning on not relying at all on signs (I'll save that for the possible next runthrough). The only one I think I'll get is the shield sign. How long is it til I get that one? And do you have any other, more general tips? Übereil

You'll probably want to at least get all the signs from the stone circles even if you don't want to spend talent points to improve them. I'm halfway through Chapter II and there seem to be bronze talent points a-plenty. Because of this, by now I have sort of an even spread over all the many areas you can spend points in. At first, I only focused on strength and the sword fighting styles, though.
So far I have the first two signs, Aard and Igni (the thrust one and the fire one). These two are available by Chapter I, and the others can be found for the first time in the swamp forest in Chapter II. Aard is remarkably useful in battle: it can stun and disarm opponents and also move obstructions out of the way.
Read everything you can! Sell the books back afterwards so they don't take up inventory space. Learn alchemy, it's a must on normal difficulty and above. I make Cat, Swallow, and Tawny Owl potions almost every time I meditate.

Having finished the original game a while back, I can assure you that Flix is right - you get a ton of Bronze talents. Certainly all you're going to ever need. Silver come in enough supplies you'll only need to plan a bit with those. But Gold - they're as rare as gold, so spend them wisely

Yesterday, DL'ed Patch 1.4; the two adventure; bonus content; Polish and English language packs. I've been playing Side Effects, which been cool, so far. Also, one of the great things with Witcher: EE -- no disc needed in the drive anymore! Woohoo!

Just how am I supposed to protect the bar maid in the first village when she kamikaze's straight into every kind of monster we meet? A little longer and I'm gonna let the stupid cow die... And when I finally manage to get passed that battle I save. We then walk up to her house, I get a quest finnished sign. But a dog appears next to the house, and she helps me kill it. I then walk past the house, where six (or so) dogs appear. You'd think they'd attack the guy who's standing next to them waving a sword and not the woman at the other side of the house. But of course not, they go for her and kill her. But that's cool I think, I saved after the last battle. Only, when I reload she's dead... Übereil

Too bad...if she had lived she would have offered you a romantic liaison at the abandoned mill... I had zero trouble escorting her, luck of the draw I guess. If you want to reload, you might try using the Aard sign to stun whichever barghests are attacking Vesna and kill them first.

I reloaded an earlier auto save, and then made sure all extra barghests on the path in between the tavern and her house. I'm now (once again) allmost done with the village. Btw, is the sword the dwarf will make you any good?

Yeah, he (and any smith) can reforge your steel and silver swords, with ore or runes, respectively. It will greatly enhance the damage. You'll need three pieces of ore or runes, and I think you may be able to buy them, but they seem rare. I've got two pieces of blue meteorite ore so far, hoping to find a third soon!

Any tips on how to beat the main hellhound? Preferrably without losing Abigail. I've given it a couple of tries and he seems pretty unbeatable. Mainly because you can't hit him because if you do you get immolated and will stand still and burn for a couple of seconds, during witch time you can do nothing in the way of dodging, parrying or hitting. Usually when that happen I die, which makes me think that effekt is pretty overpowered...

I had major trouble with the Beast too. Stay away from the firewall he summons...and focus only on him, ignore the little green ones.
Using the Aard sign saved my butt, so that's my advice. Power it up (if you have it) and let loose. He won't be stunned for long, but it will give you a second or two to do some major damage. I think strong style worked best, but if you're mobbed, group style does major damage to all the enemies surrounding you.
Also, if you have Tawny Owl (Endurance) or Swallow (Health) potions, drink them at the start of the fight.
Even if Abigail 'dies' during the fight she'll get back up at the end, so you're not really in danger of losing her, just her help during the fight.

I had trouble with the barmaid, but slaughtered the main Hellhound, IIRC. There's some clue to beating him in what they tell you, but I can't recall what that is. He's the result of some kind of curse and so you're kinda breaking the curse. He also has a cool ingredient - don't forget to grab that
