Has anyone seen Kingdom of Heavn? If you have, what are your thoughts? If you haven't, what do you think, worth seeing or not? Shan

Haven't seen it, yet. Not sure I really want to. It sounds OK, but I'm going through a phase where I'm not vastly interested in films right now, and it takes something really amazing to get me into a cinema.

I don't see alot of movies either, Elliot. Stars Wars will be the first in a long time for me. Someone just mentioned that they thought it was pretty good and suggested that we might want to see it. Most of the time before I see anything, I like to find out what others think about it. It usually helps me to decide whether it is worth it or not. Shan

I do know it has been roundly condemned by Christians AND Muslims, so it's probably pretty unbiased, religiously speaking

I found Riddley Scott to have become a bloated, self-important and hollow filmmaker these days, yet slightly entertaining. If you liked Gladiator you'll probably like this one. I'll see it because I like these kind of battle pictures, I could bet is 100% better than Alexander.
According to most of the reviews I've seen the movie is an OK spectacle, doesn't really say much about the Crusades or anything but the spectacle is worth it.

Not terribly interested in this, I must confess. I often like epic films, but there's just not enough here to grab my interest. Partly it's the period in history, partly just that there's not enough about the film itself that grabs me. Might be the film itself might defy my expectations. But offhand, I usually don't spend money to see films unless I think there's a good chance that it's worth seeing.

Colin Farrell... Snigger ;D The old Elliot casting law comes into force big time, there Casting Ferrell was the least of its problems. It was pretentious and boring, and if there is something I can't stand in a movie is shallow pretentiousness (or in any media for that matter, have I ranted about For Tomorrow, yet?) King Arthur, Troy and possibly Kingdom of Heart, while not being terribly good, they were good entertaining. Or maybe I'm just a harsh critic, but the standard for that particular genre has been raised to the stratosphere by The Best Movie Ever Made™ (Also known as The Return of the King) Too bad, I like some of Stone's movies, but after this abysmal failure I don't think he'll do another one soon, if ever. Too bad

I watched this, neat movie. It's never boring and the pace is actually quite good. I could see why it's been criticized as it doesn't portray the Muslims as depictable killing machines and they put the Templars as the bad guys. Bloom, while still not the best of actors, pulls his role quite well, don't ask me why, he just have the style for this type of movies. Cinematically, it owes quite a bit (in fact, a lot) to Return of the King, as the siege of Jerusalem is almost frame by frame taken from the Siege of Gondor. Even the catapults, which I'm pretty sure they were designed especially fro RotK, are used for this movie. I liked it, it had enough Hero Moments™ to satisfy me.

But i digress.

watched it, fairly basic and timid epic...
Muslim and Christian fight, history. thats what happened, no problem. Then they have a very postmodern way nof ending the movie...

Wow, this one is really getting mixed calls. I think it is probably like Scream said. Any movie has its own audience and some are more widely spread than others. This sounds like one that definitely has a specific audience appeal. Shan

I think that if you like movies like Braveheart, Troy or King Arthur, you'll probably like this one, too, Shan.

I have to say I've seen it twice and I enjoyed it both times. It seems to be a story about how 1 good man can affect the world around him, and so it follows him from being a blacksmith with a broken heart to Jerusalem and back with a healed heart.
I would recommend seeing this film.

I didn't like Braveheart at all. I cried when they killed him. That was absolutely awful. I think we are going to take a chance and go see Kingdom of Heaven. My husband thinks that there is a possibility that it will be good and wants to see it. Will let you know whether it was worth it for me or now after we see it. Thanks guys for all your help. Shan

I didn't like Braveheart at all. It was sooooooooooooooo sad. I cried and cried when they killed the guy. Shan And what did you do when they slit Murron's throat? That was awful!! btw, did you see how William Wallace was killed? Where the hook went? Yikes! And yes, I liked Kingdom of heaven, I like those costume films of these days, allthough Alexander was one of the worst movies I saw in that genre, Gladiator, King Arthur, Troy, Braveheart, The Patriot, Joan of Arc etc... I just want to see more of these "hero" movies, but don't give me something like "A Knight's Tale", the music, the girl's dresses, it was more a modern play then an epic movie!
