Superman 2: What Could've been

Recently Superman 2 (1970's) has popped up in the news Due to some comments by Margot Kidder at a recent Smallville press conference about there being a Richard Donner version of Superman 2. This sounded interesting and I thank comic book resources for posting a follow up story the next day. Here are a few links:

This is a very interesting read about how Superman 2 could've been with Donner directing it. It would be very nice if they put this on a special edition DVD though given the circumstances I think this is something Warner Bros. would rather forget.

The Richard Donner version would be pretty hard to track down even the version that they talk about in the last article considering the Donner version was never shown in theatres, Nor was it ever finished. Though I'm hoping that the fans cause enough of a stir to get the Donner version included when they do the DVD release. I'm betting they'll release a special edition of Superman 2 around the time Superman Returns hits theatres.

Superman II would've been to Superman what X² and Spider-Man 2 were to X-Men and Spider-Man. Sadly, it never was thanks to the Salkind rats.

Seems this might not be just a rumor. I've read about a "Special Edition" of Superman II, directed by Richard Donner, being prepped for release on DVD (along with SE's of Supes III and--gulp--Supes IV) in time for Singer's Superman Returns this coming summer.

That is certainly cool news. Superman 2 SE will definetly be on my to buy list now.
