Finally, after many years, Martin Scorcese got his more than deserved Oscar for Best Director and a Best Picture for The Departed, which was absolutely brilliant.
I was worried they were going to award oh-so-Oscarable-but-mediocre Babel. Thank God I was mistaken.
The one thing I didn't liked was that El Laberinto del Fauno won neither Best Foreign picture nor Best Original Screenplay, which it deserved completely.

My youngest son called me early and said he was rooting for Marty and the "Departed"...he watches movies all the time, told him he should be a critic.. He surely was long overdue, with his list of great movies he has directed, he should have won it long ago....

Going all the way back to Taxi Driver, yeah.
He deserved it not only for his career, but because The Departed was truly the best among those nominated. I have not seen a bad movie directed by Scorcese, but a few of them do stand out among the others. One per decade, I'd even say. The Departed was for the 00's what Taxi Driver was for the 70's, Goodfellas for the 90's, etc.
