Ok has anyone else seen this movie? It was made by the guy who did Sin City. Ill admit, Ive seen it twice, and it is fantastic. My only qualm (and it didnt really bother me) the main character has a little trouble covering his Irish accent at points.
Overall...freaking A++++++++++++++
If you are even remotely interested in Greek history youll love it (I dont know if actual Greeks would like it)
Go see it...freaking awsome...

I loved this movie. Awsome! But who wants some fun trivia you probably already knew, but suprised me when I found out? 1. Those chests are real. Each spartan had to work out big time to have a part in this movie! 2. King Leonidas is played by that soft-looking irish guy in Timeline! I know, I know, but it surprised me that it was him going from gentle-voiced and not-too-built timline character to pumped "TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!" Hmm? Thats all, I just wanted to blabber that out. Surprisingly, the critics bombed this movie. Ok, not so surprising, critics being critics, but still it made people wonder if it was going to be worth watching. When I went to see it, it was just me and a few other people (maybe 20 in total, 15ish of which were part of the group I went with). I pity the fool who would have liked it but missed out because they heard it was 'not so good' on the radio! Bah, I enjoyed it to the max. Good movie, good times, good stuff. Killerzzz

I find it extremely sad that of all the really wonderful and brilliant works of literature that have been written during the history of mankind, apparently the only ones worth of the most faithful film adaptations are those written by Frank Miller.
Truly sad.

The one part that particularly bugged me, was the part with the Oracles, as not only is what they said inaccurate, their behavior is as well...

I saw this movie, or atleast all the fights, but kinda missed the storyline, on a LAN. I would love to see the entire movie, but I was kinda busy winning a tournament... From what I saw though, the fights, it seems really cool, the slow-mo and extra-blood effects very well done, and the combat-coreography is NICE, they must´ve practiced coreography atleast 80% of this film's making. Seemingly it's a 10/10 movie, but I haven't seen the story just the fights

Finally, I took the chance to go to the theatres and see "300". It's was a great movie, no doubt about that. Lots of nice costumes, good acting and the fightings sure looked real enough to me. My only problem at one point was, when the giant elephants came on, the thought I landed in a circus freakshow instead of a movie. One freak after the other came on, hugh rhinocerosses, a man with lobster scissors for arms, ugly Ephors and what else... Xerxes looked quite cool, didn't he? With the make up and stuff ;D Anyway, has anyone recognized Faramir? Allthought his chest wasn't that muscled, he did very well though. @ Killerzzz, were all the chests real??? Nice work ;D I don't know how much of the movie is historically true, but as far as I'm conserned, I admire the Spartans for their courage and their bravery. I felt pity for the oracle girl though, being under some kind of drugs or alcohol, abused by those ugly Ephors etc... Overall, a good movie, but you should see in on the big screen. AAA+ is my rating

Well most of it is true, except offcourse the special "monsters". But the 300 vs a lot more is true that the spartans didnt keep misformed children etc is true, the part where the youngsters are removed from their family to well go on a survival is true.
Saw it also on the big screen, mostly sitting there with my mouth fully open. Listening to the really good music, really good filming thing. Special effects etc.
oh and more trivia, there were only 2 days filmed on location, with one scene being that with the horses that are going to sparta. Almost the rest was filmed in front of blue and green screens.

The part about Xerxes being a gigantic effeminate wasn't though. That's straight from Miller's homophobic and racist mind. Pretty much like the whole movie and graphic novel.

I didn't know Miller is a racist and homophobic? Wow, that changes a big part of how I look at his movies now. I will try and look closer how he deals with the colored actors. No wonder that black Persian was pushed into that pit in the beginning of the movie

I don't think that he's homophobic and racist, I think he's just an extreme nationalist. There is a difference.

Extreme nationalism can lead to racism, as it's in Miller's case.
His homophobia is a running theme in his comics, like misogyny.

Just because someone writes characters, very often in a dark theme, doesn't make him a racist or homophobe. You sir, are assuming.

Anyway, he makes good movies. I don't mind his real life character soo much, as long as it doesn't show too much in movies or lyrics. And as long as he doesn't hurt anyone, who cares huh?

Just because someone writes characters, very often in a dark theme, doesn't make him a racist or homophobe. You sir, are assuming. Not at all. When he made the Joker, the most depicable villain in Dark Knight Returns, strangely effeminate and with a crush on Batman, I thought none of it. When he made Dick Grayson strangely effeminate and with crush on Batman in the sequel, I thought it was perhaps a coincidence. When he made an ancient ruler into a depraved and gigantic effeminate I started to think that it was a pattern. Casual demeaning comments to Athenians "boy lovers" seemed to add to it. Which seems strange in something as homoerotic as 300 is. Am I assuming? Probably, but not without cause. He is a racist. Just read any interview. He's also bloody ignorant, and I'm far the only one to have pointed out his misogyny. So, homophobe doesn't seem much of a stretch to add to the list of Miller's endearing qualities.

I read the interview, and I'd hardly call it "racist", I'd say he despises most things that aren't 'western', thats not really racist, per say.
