Kudos to EMI. I think this is a really smart move. Restricting the number of times a track could be copied was always going to restrict sales simply because people change their computers, and sooner or later they'll find they need to re-buy tracks simply because they cannot physically copy them to their new computer anymore. That's without people who like to burn their own CD compilations and other coolness. I think it's a fact that the internet does as much to help music sales as it does to harm them, and anything that makes buying music a better deal for the consumer will surely encourage more sales and thus generate more revenue, simply because the internet market is global rather than local. People who like to buy music will always do so given the choice, IMO. The phenomenal success of iTunes is in itself a testament to that. Good find, DPR  |
