'Humanology' is a word I invented to cover the study of people in their entirety, from every aspect of individual and group psychology to the underlying growth and decay of civilisations and the reasons why empires rise and fall. Because there is no word in the English language that expresses the sheer scope, and there should be. This forum is the place to discuss every aspect of the human condition. All normal forum rules apply

PG-ish and 'Female Friendly' If you can phrase it in a way that doesn't cause problems for any of our younger members if their mothers catch them reading, and that won't be alienating to women, post by all means. If you can't, don't. It's one of my few actual rules on the Chaos Cascade, and I'm sure I don't really have to explain why

Pretty much the rule should be - if you don't think you can handle it without losing your temper, you should stay out Which I'm doing for some of the more touchy topics I must admit. ;-D

PG-ish and 'Female Friendly' *Chuckle* I must confess I'm curious... what's the definition of 'Female Friendly'?

'Female Friendly' - to me, at least - is basically avoiding anything that might give the impression this forum is meant to be a boys' club. Coz it ain't I like the idea of gathering lots of reasonable people from all over the world into one big talking shop where we can all have fun, without anyone feeling intimidated or unwelcome by the atmosphere. So I guess the short answer would be 'showing consideration'

For anyone wondering, every major aspect of Humanology as it currently exists is now written up and in this forum somewhere Unless I missed something. Which is always possible.

Unless I missed somethingHow about the situation of the elders? That is something, that certainly has changed - by the simple fact that nowadays this is a greater percentage of the population. I think the only positive attribute to age in our cultures is 'wisdom' - however you may define that.

The greater proportion of people living to old age doesn't seem to have much effect on anything except economically. Bizarre perhaps, but it seems to be the case.

However old people used to be secondary parents and a source of knowledge for the community.

Before the sharp rise in family and community breakdown, yes.

it will do, as one of the first things you need to do to "modernise" your society is to break down the sense of community, so that people will go for the things that make them better off, while not necessarilly been better for the community. You can later sell them the idea of community once you have all the nasty little things in place that allow you to keep an eye on people, but want the self govening aspect of community back.

Question: What if I have a sort of... metaphore that makes a half-serious, mostly funny, theory on stuff thing... If you get my meaning. Does that go here, or in general? Killerzzz

Probably here, just in case, Killerzzz This forum gets anything that might get very philosophical or very volatile, as a rule. Makes it easy to avoid for people who hate both
