Last night. I liked it but it felt as if there were huge chunks of the story missing almost to the point of not making sense at points. I think I'll pick up the graphic novels.

I think that's a good idea, SPS. Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are huge chunks of the story missing. But then, Akira is such a huge story that it took up several huge graphic novels. I'm quite sure they cut out a lot of content to keep it from going on too long. It's still a pretty good anime, though, all in all.

I loved the movie, until the last part, which I thought was among the most retarded things I've seen in anime.

Yeah, the ending was a little on the stupid side but it made sense the way they explained it. Tetsuo, Akira, and the kids all had power beyond humanity so it made sense that with all that power they would create a new universe since they were gods. Odd side note: As soon as I saw the part where Tetsuo turned into that giant organic mess I remembered the episode of South Park with the trapper keeper.

Movies typically leave stuff out. Just no way to pack all the details from the larger series that the movie is based on, whether it's a manga or anime series.

true enough, Sarah. which is why after watching the anime, it's really rewarding to read the manga as it is deeper & richer in details & story.
@ SPS & TD -> not sure about the retardic part, as i felt it was cryptic.

I thought it was a cool anime. Tho the kids were a little annoying ;D, and the nutso ending was weird, it was still really good. Also, Kanada, looks like Canada, so that's just bonus points. But even weird and hard to undestand, those things that make you wonder and think are part of what I liked about it. Killerzzz

Hey, I just saw something cool if anyone's interested. This is sortof a music thing, but I'm bringing it up for its Anime revelance. ;D The music video for Kanye West's Stronger, remixed from Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", is inspired by Akira. I noticed when I was looking at the hospital scene, then all the rest came back. So anime fans, see if you can spot the Akira in the vid. It'll be fun. (plus its a cool song ) Killerzzz
