Who is your favourite NPC? The best or funniest or most unique regular character who was never really a party member? My own is probably Coralis the red dragon, who had figured out that the best way to get a massive treasure haul was to go into business. He was LE rather than the usual CE, but highly ethical towards his customers - reliability being profitability. A rather unique take on the draconic desire to gather immense amounts of treasure, i always thought

Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil, Alrik. They're standard abbreviations for parts of the D&D alignment system

I haven't done much GMing, but the comic relief characters have been my favourite so far. I'm running a one-player modern zombie campaign. One of the NPCs is the damsil in distress who just freezes up and screams whenever danger is near, and she's somehow always near the PC. We still don't know her name or anything about her, but she's been saved so many times I'm sure it won't be long before she's used as a meat shield instead.

I had created a player character, but it turned out that I was GMing so I made it an NPC. She was a drunken monk raised by dwarves, but she was actually a halfling. She was pretty funny, drunk almost all the time, but also always deadly. And she had this habit of just plopping down somewhere and starting her crafting of mugs, which was her specialty. The players all got a kick out of her. I wished I could have played her as a PC so I could invest more energy in her, but oh well.
