What were the best albums you got in 2008?
***
Well, my list needs some major changing! I just realised some albums I thought I got last year were this year and vice versa... Horrifically, I can't have gotten more than about 20-25 albums this year! I'm WAY down on normal! At least 2009 is looking promising...
1. Surprising no-one who's noticed my signature pic, I'm sure, my #1 album this year by a very clear margin is Fearless by Taylor Swift (Yes, Kon, a country album! ;D). Not only is every song written or co-written by Taylor herself, but almost every track would be the highlight of most other albums. This thing is superb on every level and i can't recommend it enough.
2. Taylor Swift by Taylor Swift. Could have sworn I got this in 2007, but clearly not! So Taylor takes the two top spots due to being totally awesome. Pretty much everything I said about Fearless is also true of this, her debut.
3. Breakout by Miley Cyrus. Most years this would have been #1, with Miley putting in some superb vocal performances, including a great cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Excellent album.
4. Black Ice by AC/DC. Nothing here will convince anyone who is not already an AC/DC fan, but if you are then this is a great album. AC/DC rock!
5. Hayley Sings Japanese Songs by Hayley Westenra. Hayley has an utterly gorgeous floaty voice that is almost incomparable. I usually consider that 'best female voice on the planet right now' is a toss up between her and Joss Stone. Awesome album.
6. Rockferry: Deluxe by Duffy. The outstanding new Brit talent this year, Duffy came out of nowhere to own the Brit charts. For good reason - she's an incredible singer.
7. One Chance by Paul Potts. Normally, Opera has about as much chance of making my list as, well, Country... But Potts has what may just be the best voice since Mario Lanzo. Just astounding.
8. You & Me by Joe Longthorne. The long battle with throat cancer has clearly taken its toll, but Longthorne can still out-sing nearly anyone. Just a great album.
9. the Lost Gershwin by Victoria Hart. Not normally a Jazz fan, either (It's the list for unusual, this ;D}, but Victoria has that extra something... I just like her voice. Good album.
10. Pictures: 40 Years Of Hits by Status Quo. Coz a 40 song retrospective of the Quo is definitely worth a place on the list!
