Abandoned but not Forgotten is a website about abandoned buildings that have been photographed. A lot of times they have been broken in to, to make pictures from the interior. I always find it extremely fascinating to see such things. Abandoned, rotten remnants from history. It's also amazing how newer buildings that have been abandoned, can disintegrate so fast. An abandonded school that turns out to be a prison (link)There are also pictures from other structures than buildings, ships and a subway tunnel for example. Or amusement parks and even complete factories, army bases and mines. Especially the pictures from hospitals and old mental care centers are creepy. (posting this in the general board, don't know where else it belongs

omg this is fasinating i found some abannoned/burnt mental home and omg everythings trashed and writing on the walls says things like "GO in the attic and look behind the door... good luck" "Hell is Near" "KILL" omg i love it. theres a definate creepyness about the place tho. i'm mainly wondering if the writing was the patients or some vandals that broke in. it's inspiried me to write a story. i probably wont finish it but omg. I LOVE IT thank you hildor for posting this ;D

I love these things, too. But sadly there are none in my area.

I know a few of such places in my area. One of them is a VERY creepy and old orphanage. Not to be surprised, there are stories going on about a murder that's happend there, but that's probably nonsense. My sister has been there once with a couple of friends and one of them found a book that dated back from 1600.

Interesting, some of those abandoned houses look indeed like a ghost house or so. Gives me chills whenever I walk past one of those.

Interesting... There looks to be neat pics in there. They should improve site navigation though; the dark blue menu on black is a pain. I wonder if they could get in trouble for doing what they do?

Hm I would wonder who wants to sue them for entering an old building...It's forbidden, yes. Some people post evidence that they did break a law by entering such buildings, yes. But still, why would anyone sue them? I don't think it's worth the hassle.

Well, it's not so much about them entering there every once in a while as promoting such things and openly offering assistance to others wanting to.

There is a law in Belgium since a few years that owners of abandoned houses have to pay taxes if they don't live in that house. Or rent it at least. I find it a great idea that in some of those houses homeless people live. They haven't got a flattering name though, we call them "Krakers" which means as much as "breaking in". But as long as they try to survive, what's the big deal huh?

I'm not sure what the law is here about abandoned buildings; even if unoccupied, most at least belong to someone. Making such buildings shelters for homeless people could be a good idea if it was an organized program/supervised thing somehow... Otherwise there seem to be issues with have squatters most of the time (vandalism, insalubrity, unsafe practices (like making a fire in the middle of the place to heat it ), or the buildings themselves being dangerous).

Wow! That looks like fun!
I grew up in a developing neighbourhood. We moved into the second house there. As more and more houses were built they became out playgrounds. We'd climb on the framework, turn half-built houses into castles and dungeons. We'd use some of the materials as toys, (admitidly pinching a few for our private stash,) completely oblivious of things such as tetnus. It was great!
Now all of the construction sites are surrounded by temporary fencing. I understand that they're protecting themselves. I hope my kids find somewhere else fun to imagine and play.
Maybe I should try get into some of the abandoned building near where I live. It'd be interesting to see inside. I've always wondered about them.
My brother has another interesting story. Him and his mates entered the Queen Victoria Hospital after it was closed and waiting to be demolished. They were just looking around, when they suddenly came face-to-face with a squad of police officers, guns aimed at them! It turns out they picked the wrong time to go inside. Not long ago, the police headquarters across the road from the hospital had been bombed by organised crime families. My brother and his mates were spotted inside and seen as potential threats. In the end they were charged with tresspass and given 12 month good behaviour bonds (stay clean for 12 months and we'll pretend it never happened.)

lmao unlucky for them xDDDDDD hahaha i saw one thing on it and it reminded me of this abandonned water mill near where i live they demolished it 4 or more years ago but after this really big wind storm one night, the doors and windows blew in and all the kids in my neighborhood went inside to explore. there wasnt any machinery or anything left, it was empty with broken bricks n stuff, only one floor. we found a dead cow. that was scary.

Surely not as scary as meeting the cow's ghost, though!
