I figured I may as well start a general thread for discussion of the many groups who all come into the rough category of Rock I like to call The Generic American Rock Sound. You've all heard it, I'm sure. The music is fast, well played, the band are definitely musicians of some talent. The singer has a quite high voice and you could imagine him doing very well indeed as part of a boyband (Every boyband having the obligatory one member who can actually, ya know, sing). But somehow, despite the obvious talent, they are completely interchangeable with about a million other groups. Simple Plan are pretty much the blueprint, with Blink182 at the harder edge. Sum 41, Bowling For Soup (Easily the best of the bunch by virtue of being hilarious)... You know them. You've heard them and others like them a million times. So - like it, hate it, or somewhere in-between? Either way - I'll also be posting links to GARS bands in here, for those who like them ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) *** Tied For LastAction ItemNorth Of The CityMore to follow, doubtless ;D

Hate it. Especially since I see those whiny vocal styles infecting American hard rock and metal(core) groups. Which is generally why I never turn on my radio or listen to any rock coming from my country (with a handful of exceptions).

For me, it's OK as background music, but that's about all. Except for Bowling For Soup, who are truly hilarious.
There's just far too much of it, as evidenced by the fact that I can just invent a genre classification for it and everyone knows what I mean...
