Full article hereCan't say I was ever a huge fan, personally, but it's interesting to see all the old 80s supergroups reform. I wonder who'll be next?

And also the name of a German machine gun, I believe? Thus a 'Spandau Ballet' would be a dance with bullets. I THINK that's the idea, though I could be well off. The 80s were long ago and my memory is not that good ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

^ MG08 is what you're talking about - but like many other things, only non-Germans use "Spandau" as a name for that ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Spandau was the place were the MG08's were stored.

I guess for most of us, a name is more evocative than a number.

Well, when you're yelling "Duck! Spandau!" it's a whole heck of a lot easier than "Duck! MG08!" I guess it's all about context, Kit ;D

If you'd be yelling that to a German, they would look at you and then most likely be dead because no way in hell would I react when some mentions a friggin surburb to me! "DUCK! SOHO!" ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Yeah, but the German would be getting "Duck! Sten!" instead ;D
Of course, everyone gets "Duck! Americans!" ;D

It was the old WW2 joke: 'When the British flew over, the Germans ducked. When the Germans flew over, the British ducked. When the Americans flew over, EVERYONE ducked!' ;D

I'd say the same. Never heard the name of Spandau (once a town of its own) for a machine gun. But on the other hand I'm not into military things at all. I visited Spandau several times, and I found it quite nice. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) At least the Citadel and the inner part of the town. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpandauThe German-language article is much more detailed, of course. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Edit: By the way, I remember a member of Spandau Ballet singing on the Alan Parsons Project album "Time Machine", which is imho the weakest album of all of the series. The imho greatest exception of it is "Call of the Wild", sung by Moya Brennan. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
