Well, it works in other sections of the forum, so why not here? Let's drum up some conversation, shall we? What do you think are the best SF TV shows? My favourites are: Blake's 7 - arguably the best reason to watch B7 is Avon, as this compilation of his best insults proves. Dr Who needs neither explanation nor introduction, I should imagine. Awesome show. Buck Rogers - loved it then, still really like it now. No idea why. Never has the future looked so totally, well, OLD... ;D Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles - best of the new breed. So guys & gals - what are your all time top SF shows?

Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles- Quite simply the best show on TV today. It has managed to land on my favorite TV series of all time already. Firefly- Second best series, the only western I'm interested in. Twilight Zone- Rod Serling was amazing. I watch the marathon every year. New Doctor Who- I never saw the old one but the new one is pretty dang good, and I don't care what anybody else says Donna Noble was the best of the New Who's companions

My turn... Twilight Zone: My all-time favorite show, full-stop. Between Serling, Richard Matheson, and Charles Beaumont, they had one of the best writing teams in TV history. It didn't help that they had a stellar roster of actors to work with either. Doctor Who: A great show for more reasons than I'd care to count. It's also got probably the best structural foundation of any ongoing series that I've seen... they can replace any single actor, and the show still goes on. Star Trek TOS: Yes, the special effects were often cheesy and ridiculous (a squirt bottle was once used as a plot device, which is pretty much as low as it goes ;D ). But the core characters and concept are pure gold, and the writing on the first two seasons (featuring such luminaries as Harlan Ellison and Norman Spinrad) was very good even by today's standards. Firefly: Maybe not the most original series, but it had a lot of charm and heart, and there are a lot of intriguing concepts in it that were never properly developed.

Must be slipping in my old age! Forgot Red Dwarf. *** As for the Dr Who love - well, it's not the longest running SF show in TV history for no reason, Flix! And that's global, BTW Dr Who avoids the usual SF cliches of taking down the villains with big guns and cool spaceships in favour of a hero who doesn't like killing, solves things with his brain and travels around in a battered old phone box. As The Doctor can travel anywhere in space and time, there's literally no limit to what the writers can do with him - well, one. There's no magic in the Who-verse, only science. Beyond that, anything goes. If you really want to understand the appeal, find Blink if you can. The Doctor is barely in it, it's a complete stand alone story - and it's utter brilliance.
