I seem to recall that Alrik had a hand in quite a bit of the 'mood/atmosphere' books, or am I remembering wrong? It's a lot more than just one poem...

@ Alrik: Thanks for your post, I'm mentally naming it "A brief history of the Germans on the Larian Studios Forum" ;D Of course, the main person disrupting otherwise complete German dominance of the Forum is Raze... He's so cool! Always ready with a practical solution to your being stuck in the game, and almost NEVER made mistakes in his posts (IIRC, with me he only made the mistake of thinking there was HP regen in "Divine Divinity," but he explained that it was because he'd recently been playing "Beyond Divinity" a lot). Quite frankly, it's about 35% German, 35% Raze, 20% Belgian and 10% other. ;D (Not based only on post count, but on actual contribution to the people's questions concerning the game).

@2head: Yes, my forums name at Larian has alw<ys been "Alrik Fassbauer", I'm using it everywhere ... It goes back to a learning TDE session ... In Divinity 1, there were a LOT of forummembers mentioned with their names ! I guess you don't realize how manby it actually were ! ... I believe there should be an easter egg thread about Divinity 1 in the Larian forums ... I seem to recall that Alrik had a hand in quite a bit of the 'mood/atmosphere' books, or am I remembering wrong? It's a lot more than just one poem... As we say here in Germany, it's "Jein", meaning kind of "Yesno". The story of how I got involved into Divinity 1 can be read here : www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=112790#Post112790(Hope this link works.) Easter Eggs and Rune Manuscripts: www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=77614#Post77614And while I'm at it: Stories from early development: www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=106961&site_id=1#importHistory of the mysterious "Experience Bomb" : www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=10911&site_id=1#importAnd then there's somewhere the translation of "The Truth about LMK", but I can't find it right now anymore. Edit: Two notes : - No-one knows what happened of Bronthion, and whether he is still alive. Marian found himself disturbedm, so to say, to experience one day that there was no contact manageable to him anymore ... In a post he wrote that he feared that Bronthion might have died from a hard attack or so, because he wasn't thin, so to say. - The "Wind-Words" exist in a German-language and an English-language version, both by me. I think the version in the game was translated by the people who had been hired for translating the game altogether - without knowing I had translated my writings altogether. - The "Lost Kingdom" story remains largely untranslated until now. What I did there (I mean the translation, then) was a very rough version due to my inexperience. The learning curve was rather steep, then. Edit: Last note: I'm not writing poems anymore, since a few years ago. I rather write short stories, but I translate very few of them into the English language. To me, translating longer texts is just a chore.

Of course, the main person disrupting otherwise complete German dominance of the Forum is Raze... He's so cool! Raze ? He is a Canadian, if I remember correctly. But I must admit that he made me feel impressed more than once. I still find him astonishing.

That's why I said he disrupts German Dominance...

@ Al -> mentioning all that names, all the memories flood back to my mind. *teary eyes* hope all of them are doing great. @ everyone -> yep! Alrik is indeed an incredible guy with incredible artistic talent. in fact, most of the Germans especially the elders in Larian are really awesome people. using RPG jargon, they're epic characters. yes, Glance included.

Uh, now I understand this ... Took me long, innit ? Don't worry, I was just making fun of politics... @ Jang: I agree with you whole-heartedly, Alrik is AWESOME! Too bad I didn't find the Forum until 2008... Some would qualify as epic, others as legendary (including Alrik, Raze, Kiya, and several others)!

Oh, thank you, but I don't consider myself *that* great ... I have seen Kiya only once in the last months - this was when she announced that her Lycos-based web-sites were to shut down, she had lost her password, and needed someone to host her stuff from then on. I think Xanlosch hosts most of it now. Xanlosch is a very kind dwarf man who is currently helping out in the Divinity 2 forum-sections (technical help, sort of).

I've met some amazing people at Larian, but one that sticks out head and shoulders was Mea Culpa, his name wasn't used in the game or anything, but he will still be the personification (is that correct?) of Larian for me.

Kiya is the person I most regret not being able to grab for Chaos. Sadly, she burned out on forums, though She is indeed awesome.

@ Gal: I never had the honor of posting with Mea Culpa, but yes, I read some of his posts. @ Alrik: It is a trait of great men to be humble. @ Jang: Yeah, I bet Gal could teach English very well. @ EK: Have you ever tried bringing Raze here?

Post by Elliot Kane on Jul 26, 2009 8:36:29 GMT
Dragon - personally, no. I think Gal did, though, but I'm not 100% sure. I think he's pretty much devoted to Larian, though.
Despite posting on the same forum as Raze for as long as I have, we rarely interact so I can't say I know him all that well.
I got on pretty well with Kiya.

Raze hardly shows his funny side but when he does, he can crack u up like peanut. ;D yep, as what EK said, Raze is way too devoted to Larian. either that or he's a help bot. ;D
speaking of Larian members, it's been ages since i last heard of the funniest man/orc on the planet; Jurak.

Sadly, he seems to be insanely busy. He is a member here, too, but it's been... yeah, about that long. He does still post once in a blue moon at Larian, but it's beyond rare even there, these days.
