This thread is kinda based on my 'music review thread' idea, but music never yet had spoilers, so I suspect it's best to have a film review thread for old films only (IE those at least a year or two past cinema release and preferably out on DVD). Anyone looking to recommend a film (Or hoping to find something new to watch) can hopefully find some good recommendations here. *** The format I'll be using (Though obviously you guys can create your own) is: Film Title: Starring: (Anyone of note) Genre: Several paragraphs of waffle about why you like the film and why others might like it, too. Final notes: *** I won't personally bother with negative reviews. If you guys want to, it's up to you

The Professionals
Starring: Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin Genre: Western
Westerns are a genre I have always been fascinated by. Not the 'let's use our guns to mow down all the guys armed with sticks & stones' type stuff, but the character pieces and the guys with guns vrs guys with guns type stuff. Maybe it's the grandeur of the scenery, maybe it's the idea of one or a small group against all odds to do what they do, but there's something epic about the conflicts in a Western.
A lot of the best Westerns are widely known and appreciated, whilst some that are truly great films are unreasonably overlooked or forgotten.
So it is with The Professionals, the story of four men hired to recover the kidnapped wife of a rich businessman from the Mexican bandit who has kidnapped her. Each of the four is a specialist and each has a vital role... But can they pull it off? And... is all as it seems?
Great characters, great characterisation and some wonderful twists that make for a truly compelling story.
