The announcement of his death seems a little premature. Most sources are reporting 'gravely ill' or 'unconfirmed'...

Well, it's all over every news station. I just can't find any published articles online. Probably because it just happened a few hours ago. For the sake of credibility: CNN

It's updating all the time.
BBC just posted "Pop star Michael Jackson dies in Los Angeles at the age of 50, after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest, reports say."
He probably IS dead, then, as most sources now seem to agree...

Speculations are that he died of a overdose of morphine. I'm not sure, and actually I don't care. I'm sad that he died, there wont be another King of Pop Rip Michael, I hope you finally find peace where ever you are now.

About time. Sorry to be mean but he obviously was mentally ill and a drug user, he probably is better off like this.
Just sad for his kids.

I was utterly shocked when I heard this late last night (apparently I was the last to know in the world).
I still can't believe it. The scary part is that I listened to Thriller two nights ago, a Michael Jackson song for the first time in over 6 months.
And interestingly, most stores are all sold out of every one of their Michael Jackson albums.
Yeah, I'm still in shock.

No matter how he was in his personal life, there will never be a King Of Pop again. His music will never be made again, his style, his moves and his shows, it's all gone forever. I grew up with his music, I sang Thriller, Beat it, Bad, Black or White, Ben etc from the moment I could talk. No one will ever take his place. I'm still not over the shock, and the same day two other famous people died, one in the US (Farah Fawcett) and one in Belgium (Yasmine), so at the end of the day I felt we lost a few monuments.

He also had a lot of people against him for his alleged infamous crime (the molestation), better to die than to live with so much condemnation... Besides, now all the people who hate him have no choice but to show respect for such a notable person.

Frankly his life and death meant very little to me. His music was not my kind of music at all, at any point in my life. Musically, to me, he was fodder for Weird Al parodies, and sadly, later on, jokes about being made of plastic, dangling kids from windows, etc.
I was more bummed out by the death of Billy Mays (oxy-clean spokesman) the next day.

I wasn't a fan, but it can't be ignored that he revolutionised the music industry. In the 80's his record label sued MTV for not playing any black music. Micheal Jackson's style was something that white America was happy to listen to, and I think without him it would have been more difficult for hip-hop and r'n'b to be accepted.

Hip-Hop and R'n'B should not be accepted as music....they really aren't...
But as for MJ's contribution to the music industry, I agree it was 2nd to none and the world is poorer place without that genius.

I wouldn't place MJ's music under the category of hip-hop or R&B. His style was completely different from those styles.

I couldn't care less for the person behind the music I listen to. Michael Jackson has made some cool funky songs (and moves ^^) so it's a regrettable fact he died so soon. How he managed his personal life is not my business.

Not really my kinda music, but I heard this at work the other day:
Farrah Fawcett died, sadly. However her spirit was raised up, out of her body and glided with grace towards the welcoming arms of God. As she arrived, St. Peter even went so far as to ask, before she entered the gates of heaven. "If you could have one wish, child, what would it be?"
Farrah answered. "I wish for the happiness and safety of all the children in the world."
Within a few hours Michael Jackson was dead.
