Hello, everyone,
I recently read about a study which showed that Europeans rather read face and eyes, whereas Asians rather read only the eyes.
Which might - according to that study - lead to slight communication problems.
Additionally, this might explain why Asian Smilieys often point out the eyes, whereas "Western" Smilieys often point out the face.
I don't have a link in English language right now, hope that someone can provide one.

Interesting, Alrik. It would go a long way towards explaining the really huge eyes often found in Manga and Anime.

Erm, actually... the huge eyes were derived from Betty boo and all those oldish American art styles like Disney(Mickey mouse, etc.). It was a trend set off by Tezuka Osamu.
But it IS true that there's a very huge emphasis on the "eyes" in certain manga or anime works. --------- As for me, I'm fine with both Asian and European smilies. And yes, I can confirm that study, Alrik. I think there's also more: I remember something about Americans looking at the mouth. And how Asians who have to communicate with Europeans and Americans have to adjust their style of communication and their body language, so as to get things across.
