I want to see if I can make ten while keeping the quality up. Last time I created this kind of list was a few years ago and some of those people are now over 21.
The new list won't really be in any order as the types of music represented are far too diverse.
They're all girls. Not deliberate, just that there's no guys in the age range currently impressing me.
This is my list. Add your own or curse out mine, as you please!
1. Taylor Swift. At 19 she's a prodigious talent, though more for her songwriting than her singing. That said, she has a very pleasant voice that is easy to listen to. As the best selling artist in the world right now, she needs no real introduction from me, of course.
2. Emma Deigman, 20, is the next Joss Stone, only with far catchier tunes. Terrific voice, great control and she's as good live as she is in studio, which says it all. Soul, of course.
3. Alex Roots,16 17 (As of today!), creates music which neatly blends 80s music with current trends, so appealing to both age groups. Crucially, she's a terrific live performer and her acoustic versions of some of the greatest hits from the past are terrific. Pop/Rock.
4. Miley Cyrus, 16, also needs no introduction, I'm sure. With a terrific range, great power and good control Miley is a phenomenal singer. She varies genres a lot, but is mainly Pop, Rock or Country.
5. Faryl Smith might be 14 by now, but I'm not sure. Either way, she is possibly the best singer on this list as well as being the youngest. She has power, control and range that many professions three times her age and more would kill for. She's really live in the clip, BTW. Classical singer.
6. Victoria Hart, 20, only sounds like she's living in 1940. If there's a better Jazz singer currently around, I haven't heard her.
7 Eliza Doolittle, 20, has a unique style of song and a pretty unique vocal style to go with it. You'll love her or hate her with nothing between, I suspect. I can't even describe the style. It's that different.
8. Sarah Solovay. The best age I can get for Sarah (Who seems remarkably coy about it compared with other singers) is 'at high school' which, as she's a New Yorker, I think qualifies her. She's a serious rival to Michelle Branch as both singer and songwriter, with some seriously good music.
OK, I got as far as 8! Over to you guys & gals!
