That's pretty awe inspiring - and just a bit scary. The way the world itself changes over time is pretty amazing, really.

A lot of places where we live now are former seas... Where I lived before was formerly the "Laflamme sea", and we could find sea creature fossils in stones from time to times. I don't see why it couldn't happen the other way around.
