The draw for the 2010 South African World Cup can be viewed here: if you're lucky enough to be online in about 3 hours (as per the time of this post), you can see the results as they happen! ;D Remember, it's all by chance as they are being picked out of pots: and no team from the same pot can meet each other in the group stages. The biggest question is most likely: who will France and/or Portugal end up with? We'll see soon enough...

England have a dream group. We can't complain about that at all! With Capello in charge, it's definitely game on!
That said, Brazil are probably going to win it, but I'll be happy as long as we go out there to play football this time!

Yes, England got a dream group: just watch out for Slovenia, they upset Russia so they might pack a nastier punch than anticipated. France also got a dream group: the luckiest possible group for them (South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay). If they got any of the other groups, they'd have for sure lost some games. But like this, they have a chance to finish top of their group (and thus most likely avoid higher ranked teams until the quarter-finals). All I can say is: may the best team win! I honestly think that about 10 teams or so have a fair shot at winning: though I think it's most likely gonna be either Brazil or Spain (looking forward to a possible meeting between the two: most likely in the quarter-finals). THE GROUPS: GROUP A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France GROUP B: Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece GROUP C: England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia GROUP D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana GROUP E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon GROUP F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia GROUP G: Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal GROUP H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile

Hey EK, perhaps I'm wrong: but from what I understand of the system, assuming both teams finish top of their group (and get past the last 16), we might be looking at a France vs England match! (winner 1 vs winner 3, which, provided they win enough games, will be France vs England). I honestly can't say who'll come out on top: I'll have to see them in about 6 months to decide on that one.

Considering the utter state France are in (Having to cheat to beat Ireland over two legs!) I'd say that represented a dream result for England. Easy group, followed by a France that are at their lowest ebb. While we have our best manager since Euro 96, yet!
We couldn't ask for better. Trick is - can we do it? Like you say, a good few teams could win this one. Climate has to favour Brazil, but even so...

Ah yes, I wasn't factoring in the weather. In that case, I'd say Brazil have a better chance than Spain (before I considered them equal). As for France vs England (most likely a quarter-final game), ATM England would win: but let's not forget they'll be playing in about 7 months, so things will be different. (the last time they met, France won 1-0, or something) All France need to do, is get Ribery and Benzema fitter (have them work out more, or something), tie Henry's hands behind his back, and fire (or at least threaten to fire) Domenech. ;D THEN France would have a good chance of beating England, and even the semi-final opponent (most likely Germany or Argentina). ;D And then the final... Most likely whoever makes it to the final will face either Spain or Brazil (I posted earlier that they'd most likely meet in the quarter-final: actually it's more likely that they'll meet in the semi-final), and I'm guessing one of those two would be the most likely to win... But like I said earlier, many teams have a good shot of winning: I'd say at least 6 of them.

Yeah, I'd go with about half a dozen possibles myself. Probably a couple of dark horses I'm overlooking, too.
The climate should mean Brazil and Argentina are favourites, but with that said both Spain and Italy are used to a fair amount of heat. England and Germany round out my 'teams most likely to' list, but like you say - it's a good few months, yet. Anything can happen in that time.
All it would take for most teams is a few injuries to the wrong people...

My "top 6" is almost exactly like yours: though I'd remove Argentina (just don't see it happening, for some reason), and replace them with some other team (not sure which one, perhaps France). Who knows though, maybe Slovenia will surprise everyone and win! ;D

Stranger things have happened - though rarely! ;D
