What do you think are the best novels written in the last decade? Being kind of lazy at the moment, I'm going to list one novel for best book and one best series. You guys & gals can list as many or as few as you want, of course Best novel of the decade: The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Superb debut novel. Part one of a series, yes, but still the best novel of the decade and possibly of the last 20 years. Best series: The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. Just fires on all cylinders.

Omg Eli, I have to agree with you for once I loved The Name Of The Wind to death, I really hope for a new one asap. I think I give my vote to the Temeraire Series from Naomi Novik. At least fantasy-wise. They actually plan to make a film out of them, which scares me a bit, because movies with dragons never seem to go well. Non-fanatsy, I would say The Selfish Gene from Richard Dawkins is pretty insightful. Biggest Disappointments: (I'm adding this category because I can ;D ) Ken Follett's and Dan Brown's books. I don't get the hype. Dan Brown's stuff might be interesting for the length of the book but about 5 minutes later it's forgotten. And Ken Follett might just be the most overrated author ever, his The Pillars of the Earth is just sooo sloooow and you really must friggin live for architecture to enjoy 100 ongoing pages of cathedral descriptions. Also I don't actually know when that was published... but that doesn't change it's lameness.

Brrr! The fact that you agree with me makes me wonder if I can possibly be right, Kit! ;D Fortunately, it's SUCH a good book, I think I can recover from our agreeing... after a long lie down and proper medication, of course! ;D
