That's quite cunning, actually. They're obviously trying to gain data on who uses what method to find out actual gamer preferences.
Probably a good idea and the first time I know of that any company has tried it.
The only slight snag is they won't get any data from those gamers who avoid SecuROM altogether, but I have to applaud them for giving gamers a choice.

I'm fine with a disc check. Is a Securom disc check any worse?

I've never had trouble with it, personally, and I have a fair few games with SecuROM disk checks on them. Reports around the web have said some people have problems with it, but so far as I absolutely KNOW, those are just rumours.
I personally have no problems at all with disk checks, be they SecuROM or otherwise, but I know some do.

I don't mind the disc-check and all, but yeah - some people hate going to find their disc and putting it in the drive just to boot the game. I also like that when you uninstall BC2, it uninstalls from the PC the version of Securom drivers that came w/ the game. Nice.
