If it works as claimed, it's quite clever... Though I wonder how efficient it is and what kind of other damage that laser do. Only Females bite humans (female mosquitos that is.. ;D)
Zaping them would definitely bring down the Malaria as they are less to bite, Also less to reproduce...
Malaria is still a world wide health threat...

Yeah, though reducing the male population as well would also hinder their reproduction rate. It's a bit like: "we can help solve the problem more efficiently, but go one fancier step ahead in order not to". ;D

actually this is just one part of several things they are doing to limit the mosquito population. One of the other things they are doing is breeding sterile males in the millions and releasing them into the wild.
As they're only sterile and not impotent, they have normal mating habits. And a side effect of males mating is that at the end they break off their penis' in the female and die a few hours later. However this means that the female cannot breed again.
