Depends on the reboot and how its done. Saying reboots as a whole are bad or good seems foolish to me.

Depends on the franchise really. Sonic was sorely in need of a back to Basics approach as did Mega Man.
But Resident Evil? I don't want a return to its roots, as I try playing those older Resident Evils and they are frankly boring. RE5 was definetly flawed. Oh yes it was flawed, but I don't think that a reboot is in order.
Just for those interested here are some of the flaws in it: 1. Too similar to RE4 2. Not accessible to non-RE fans 3. Way too easy on Normal. 4. Sheva was freakin' annoying 5. Did not focus on horror. I mean come on Zombies in light are not scary. The art pallete was full of brighter colors compared to RE4s mainly dark pallete.
If RE stuck with the action, but limited the ammo even on Normal, got rid of the partner, and the escorting, the franchise shouldn't need a reboot.
So I guess what I am saying is instead of rebooting some franchises they need to fix the flaws they have, instead of saying: "Whoop! We sold less than we thought! Time to reboot! Lets throw the baby out with the bathwater!"
Also ignore the number if they have nothing to do with other games in the series aside from the gameplay. A number is a turn off to me sometimes as I feel I had to have played the rest of the series to understand the game.

Depends on the reboot and how its done. Saying reboots as a whole are bad or good seems foolish to me. That pretty much sums it up. Rebooting games that have recently been just rebooted are just foolish. Or say rebooting a game that has barely had any sequels probably isn't a great idea, either. But if the series is say 15 years old, a reboot might be a good start... Personally, I'd rather prequels or sequels than say reboots...
