Alright, I figure most people know of our next WFiB contestant, and that is M. Night Shymalan. So we're going to take two of his better films. One really sort of complex and one kind of simple but both suspenseful. We won't be using Ubreakable because I know that one will win since we have all these comic book fans here. So here are the choices:
The Sixth Sense vs. Signs
My choice is Signs all the way as it isn't ruined when you see the twist. Yes there are tons of plot holes but Signs is still genuinely creepy, and is only marred slightly by Mel Gibson's presence. But it is quite good. Its vastly underappreciated IMO. But perhaps thats more because the three films he did after that weren't good.

I preferred The Sixth Sense. Signs really didn't do much for me.

Never saw Signs, but I utterly loved Sixth Sense. Comic fan or not, I'd have one heck of a time separating it from Unbreakable, though. Both are pretty much flawless films. Not sure I could pick a favourite between them.

I would have said Signs easily, except I saw The Sixth Sense again the other day for the first time in years, and I change my position.
Signs seems too aware of itself as a movie, and has a lot of goofy moments. Also, the twists don't make sense (water kills the aliens? what about the water vapor in the air?) and the movie is also a little heavy handed with its treatment of faith.
The Sixth Sense is freaking creepy as hell, and deadly serious. The one main twist is not obvious and very chilling. All around Shyamalan's best work (along with Unbreakable).

They're both great movies, Rodney. I didn't see either ending coming and my jaw hit the floor both times. Not easy films to watch by any means - not exactly something to chill out over - but both are fantastic and unmissable films.
Shyamalan may well be the only director with two films on my 'MUST watch at least once' list.

I'd pick Unbreakable out of pure personal preference over either of these, but that's me. Of the two, though, I'd go with Sixth Sense, because it was a very subtly executed film that got a lot of mileage out of its actors. I enjoyed Signs reasonably well, but this was the turning point where Shyamalan began to go downhill as a filmmaker. I'd agree with Flix regarding the flaws in the film... for me, it's a good film, but the flaws keep it from the excellence of Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, at least for me.

Crap, I still have to watch Unbreakable. The last time I tried, the disc (or VHS? was it that far back?) I rented didn't play properly, and kept freezing up...
Gotta give that another attempt.
