I have been smoking since 1998 and have, unsuccesfully, tried to stop many times. No method, including nicotine patches/gum, worked and neither did going cold turkey. Last December my health began to detoriate as I had constant pains in my stomach and continuous severe coughing. It made me realise that I couldn´t go on this way and I bought an electronic cigarette.
The electronic cigarette is an alternative to regular smokes. It´s a battery powered device that vaporises a special tar free e-liquid. The liquid comes in with various tastes and nicotine strenghts and when used it creates vapor that neither smells nor affects others. And it´s worked wonders for me. My health have improved and both the stomach pains and the voilent coughs have stopped. I went to the doctor recently to have my lungs checked and luckily there was only minimal damage - the kind of which could have been created by traffic polution as well. I took a precautionary x-ray as well and I´m waiting for the results. I think they will be good as well.
Besides the health benefits another gigantic plus is that neither I, my clothes or my apartment smell of smoke anymore - and my sense of smell seems bettered as well. I still allow people to smoke in my home, since I refuse becoming a prude, but - reluctantly I have to agree with the rambling non smokers; Smoking does, indeed smell
There´s been a fair amount of controvery on the subject of e-cigarettes but it´s worked wonders for me. My first e-liquid contained a medium level of nicotine and in 14 days I worked my way down to low. I´m currently smoking low level but I´m experimenting with nicotine free liquid as well. It might take me a few months to make the transition, since I don´t want to create a backlash by rushing, but I will be nicotine free in the forseeable future. And for a guy who smoked 20+ a day until two months ago that is saying something.
And, hey, besides a few drinking barges where the batteries died out, I haven´t had a regular analogue cig for two months. I finally joined the digital age of smoking. And I'm thrilled I did
