No, don't worry, Silva I can tell from 'Metallicana' it'll be the usual place & character name stuff I do it a little myself sometimes - but not as obviously as that

You know Sarah, I'm beginning to think Phil was right. Elliot is a lost cause where manga is concerned. ;D Shan

unless there is a character named Morrisey in it. ;D
a manga named A Boy With A Thorn In His Side. ;D
@ Phil & Silva -> let's not give up. most of the highlighted mangas are really for teenagers as well as 20-somethings. i am definitely sure there are mangas out there for EK. Otomo for one.
@ EK -> have u ever check out the classic Lone Wolf & Cub manga? anybody can pass EK maybe a chapter of it so he can judge for himself?

And though it is not exactly manga (it was done by Americans) perhaps Elliot might like Elfquest.
It's definitely got mature themes, good characterization, no over-exaggerations, great dialogue, and is a very original, and in my opinion one of the best fantasy-themed comics available in the market.
Although the elves in the comic are big-eyed, that's normal for most elves in AD&D stories anyway. The humans in the story, however, are quite small-eyed and drawn realistically.
I was actually planning to scan a few chapters (in color) of that comic for Shantara anyway, after I'm done scanning Naruto (which I'm closing on). (DC currently owns the rights to Elfquest, but they're so expensive right now, it's horrible.)

Phil... I've read Elfquest for years. Have a ton of the collected editions, in fact Janggut... LW & Cub never appealed. Sorry.

Closet? Hardly I remember mentioning I liked them a few times - though a long time ago, now. Don't recall EQ ever being a huge topic of discussion, though...

Well... for some reason I never remember you mentioning them... and I KNOW Sarah and I have had discussions about them before...
Hmm. Well, anyway... umm... *doesn't know what to say...*
Er... who's your favorite Wolfrider? ;D

Silva... Vampire Hunter D - If i want a novel, I'll buy a novel Trigun - Don't like the art. Looks very amateurish, to me. Hellsing - lost me completely with "KIDS seem to love." Reading the preview, I believe it. Clearly aimed at a younger audience. Gunsmith Cats - definitely, definitely the WRONG kind of art! Very FF9. Eye searingly bad. Berserk - looks a bit more like it. I definitely like the premise... Looks a bit kiddie at the start, but that's something I might look for to give a flick through. See if it picks up. Definitely maybe

Hmm, if you DO like Elfquest, maybe manga isn't a loss for you after all.
Wendy Pini, the artist/co-writer of Elfquest, was inspired by Japanese art. ...But of course, it's not like there's a lot of Elfquest-like stories in manga...
But I'm almost as big a fan of Elfquest as I am of Naruto. I probably would be more outspoken about my fondness of EQ if Elfquest had just kept on releasing more new stories (preferably written/drawn by the Pinis) over the course of the last five years, instead of concentrating on re-releasing their old stories into "archive" editions and (ugh ugh) manga format books.

Phil - Cutter, I think. Overall, he's got the best blend of characteristics. Not that there are any I DISLIKE, but Cutter is the main man, as it were

Phil... If you'd ever read 2000AD, you'd know there are a LOT of different art styles that work for a story You know I read a lot of Vertigo, and the art style used there is far, far different to that used in superhero comics. The trick is appropriateness. But what is appropriate from my POV is not necessarily the same as a Manga fan might think appropiate. This is the problem - at least in some cases
