Thanks for your responses Elliot. I'll keep looking around for others to recommend to you... It's not quite manga, but ever looked at Usagi Yojimbo? Or is that too cartoony for you? I'm with Phil, I didn't know you liked EQ, Elliot. We'll have to get a discussion going sometime, especially if Shan picks up a few volumes. Shark - you're next. If I can convert Greg, I certainly can convert you! 2000 AD is great, but dang, it's the hardest to get in America. Elliot - Will told me to stop listening to British guys, it's costing me way too much. First 2000 AD, now music. If it weren't for the shipping costs, it'd be okay. But if I want that new CD, I'd have to order it from a British store online and then shipping would be too much. Hopefully it'll get released here soon.... Let me know if you hear anything. okay... back to looking for manga titles. Hey Phil, see if you can point NJT over here, maybe he'll know of something to recommend.

ROFL! ;D My secret quest to bankrupt all my American friends continues! ;D Seriously Silva - I'll let you know if I hear anything about Charlotte releasing in the US. I think she probably will, as I understand she's pretty popular there

I don't like a whole lot of manga, either, but I like some of the darker, mature stuff.
Berserk is pretty decent, Battle Royale is disgusting, vulgar, gory, and genius, and Ghost in the Shell is a classic comic book.
If you're not willing to try those, just throw in the towel.

Yeah, Jesse, I'd agree, at least of those I've read.
I love Lone Wolf & Cub, and like Samurai Executioner quite nicely. Maybe one of these days I'll find my copy of Book 1 of LW and scan it. There isn't any of the "big eyes" sort of thing you find in most manga.

You know, I really need to start reading Battle Royale. I took the first volume with me on my trip to Austin a couple of months ago, but I only got like a quarter of the way through it. Not that it was bad, I was just too busy drinking and having a good time to get back into it. It didn't help that I slept in until 3pm every day I was there Elliot, Usagi Yojimbo is fantastic, but I don't really consider it manga. In any case, it's highly recommended. -SHARK DIGGLER

I think NJT's primarily a Naruto fan (if you read his post in the Naruto Club thread), Sarah. Other than that, as far as I know, he likes the new Street Fighter comic, Calvin & Hobbes, Darkstalkers, and ummm. But yeah, I don't think that would help Elliot with the whole manga quest. Always tried to find and read Usagi Yojimbo myself, but man is it difficult to find.

might as well get the films made by the master - Akira Kurosawa; Yojimbo (the Bodyguard) & Sanjuro (which in a way is the sequel of Yojimbo).
these are classics that i love to watch over & over.

There really are a lot of titles I know you'd like. Just bug Greg about borrowing some of his. I just mentioned it because it's so based in Japanese history/mythology. It's more cartoony than manga-influenced.

Usagi is very easy to buy from like Amazon or Fantagraphics or Dark Horse.

I'd back Steve's recommendation fully. There's a little of the caricaturish stuff, but it's mostly quite restrained. Be a shame to miss out, I think. I LOVED it. Oh, and Otomo's Domu is some tasty psychological horror stuff.
Check your local library, might have a copy of either - at least then you won't lose out financially.
