The X-Mansion just a few hours ago...
Every X-Man and associate from Archangel to X-Treme is standing in a circle in the courtyard of the X-Mansion. A stone statue of Storm, with Xavier, Forge, and Cyclops in the center. Xavier is in his chair finishing up a speech...
" ...Storm may be dead, but her kind loving nature lives within us all. Her wild free spirit inspired us to be different. Her death won't be in vain for she believed in the dream and the dream will live on!"
Then a huge flash of light happens and Apocalypse is standing on the roof of the X-Mansion with his horsemen Omega Red, Sabretooth, and Holocaust standing with him, all in their classic costumes.
"A touching eulogy Xavier, unfortunately it will be your student's also,"
"I thought I killed you?" asked Cable.
Apocalypse ignores Cable's comment and about a thousand Infinites appear out of nowhere.
"X-Men attack!" yelled Cyclops as he tried to fire off an optic blast but failed.
"My powers are gone," stated Cyclops as several other people said the same thing.
"That flash must have neutralized our powers. Luckily my powers aren't entirely mutant," said Wolverine as he extended his claws.
The battle wasn't so much a battle as a massacre. Apocalypse's forces quickly neutralized the X-Men and took them away, as Holocaust destroyed the mansion, and Sabretooth, and Omega Red took care of the X-Men who's powers weren't neutralized by the flash. It was soon down to Captain Britain, Meggan, Juggernaut, Kitty Pryde, and Beast were left. Apocalypse had an ace up his sleeve though. Sabretooth had Samuel Pare a boy who looked like a fish but also someone who Juggernaut took care of, by the throat, and Omega Red was using his death spore on Meggan.
"This battle is futile, Cain Marko and Brian Braddock. Surrender now," said Apocalypse.
Captain Britain grabbed Meggan and flew away. Apocalypse had Omega Red jump on one of the horsemen's flying horses and went after the two. Holocaust took this opportunity to fire a blast right at the trio, and Kitty phased them into the ground as the anti-power flash apparently didn't last long.
"I killed them father," said Holocaust.
"They still live, but if they are fit they will survive, my coming ascension,"
"What should I do with this one Lord Apocalypse?" asked Sabretooth as he held the unconcious Sammy in the air.
"Brian Braddock and Meggan Braddock are captured," said Omega Red as he returned with the two heroes.
"Good. Holocaust retrieve Storm's corpse. She shall make the perfect Famine. As for Samuel Pare, take him with us," said Apocalypse as he teleported away, the Horsemen quickly followed. two minutes later Kitty Pryde, Beast, and Juggernaut rose from the ground to take a look at the devastation...
The Mansion was still burning, and the grounds around the mansion were completely destroyed, leaving everything charred and broken. There were no bodies or anything, but there was a faint voice in a cajun accent that could only be heard by the enhanced senses of Beast's cat-like form:
"Help! Rogue! Bishop! Anyone! My leg is stuck, and I can't charge up the rubble unless I want to kill myself! Please help!"

With a flash of light and a loud BLINK, Mimic stood there amidst the wreckage.
Would there ever be an end to it? For so long, Calvin Rankin had jumped from world to world, with each worse off than the last. He remembered his world... and while it wasn't perfect, it was a paradise compared to the worlds he'd seen on his long journey. Except this time, he wasn't even blinked in time to save his friends.
Except one. He heard Gambit's call of distress. Cal had never trusted Gambit much. He had been a villain once, and knew all too well how manipulative a man like Gambit could be. Still, Cal had respect for Gambit, and he wouldn't abandon an X-Man who needed help. Charles Xavier had taught him that, though it felt like several lifetimes ago.
"Hold still," Cal tells Gambit urgently. "The name's Mimic. I'm here to help."
Cal then turned to the remaining X-Men who seem to be active and unharmed. He hoped he could get them on his side quickly.
Cal tried to use the speed he'd copied, long ago, only to find it didn't work. Then he remembered... he'd burned up most of his power slots to blink into this world. All he had left were some magnetic powers he'd mimicked from Lorna Dane. They'd just have to do.
"Would the rest of you mind pitching in?" Cal asks. "Hank, you and Kitty might want to move fast. I'll try to move this debris, but I don't know how strong my powers are now."
Cal knew he could trust Hank McCoy. Hank was one of his oldest friends, back on his world. He hadn't known Kitty as long, but they'd been teammates before. He also knew both of them were solid professionals. They'd get it done.
Cal reacts quickly, moving in to help...
Actions:
1. Cal will raise a magnetic shield over himself, so nothing breaks his concentration. 2. Cal will use his magnetic powers to lift the debris covering Gambit. 3. Cal will deposit the debris safely away from any bystanders.

It all happened so quickly. One moment they were honouring their fallen friend and the next it was a massacre.
Hank was then taken aback by the sudden apperance of Mimic. He stepped back slightly as Mimic 'blinked' in.
Then Hank heard Gambit's cries for help with his enhanced hearing. Mimic was trying to help but as he said his power might not be enough.
Without a word Hank jumped into action and rushed over to where Gambit was. "It's okay, Remy." Hank said "We'll have you out of there in a snap."
Hank was fairly tired from the battle just moments ago but he felt he had enough strength to lift the debris.
And of course, he would have to check whether Gambit was in any condition to move without injuring himself more.
But he had to move quickly...
Actions: 1. Beast will help move the debris off Gambit. 2. Beast will help move the debris aside from any bystanders. 3. Beast will examine Gambit for any major injuries or wounds.

Cain Marko looked towards the rooftop where the horseman and Apocalypse appeared. Gritting his teeth and clenching and unclenching his fists, he demanded, to no one in particular, "Why didn't Chuck sense them?! And they have Sammy, too!" Juggernaut turns towards Gambit's cries. Seeing the chance to smash something, Cain acted first without thinking, as usual.
Actions: 1. Juggernaut begins knocking and flinging the debris recklessly. 2. He continues smashing until the entire area is free of debris. 3. When he's done, he finally looks around at his handiwork.
~~~
Kitty was worn and tired from exertion, but hearing Gambit's cries of help spurred her on to further action. She rushed over to see how she could help.
Actions: 1. She tries to phase through the rock. 2. She tries to find Gambit. 3. She tries to phase him and pull him out of the debris.
The group works quickly as Juggernaut, Beast and Mimic use their abilities to pull the wreckage off of Gambit, and they see that Gambit is in pretty bad shape both his legs are impaled, and he's almost passed out from blood loss. Kitty phases Gambit from the rubble that impaled him.
"Guess I'm not so lucky this time mes amis?" said Gambit as he passed out.
The team hears some more moaning, and find Forge near Gambit, and Forge is in better condition than Gambit, he can at least get up, though it hurts him to do so.
"I think we should get Gambit to the infirmary if it's still intact. We made a beeline for the security system to find out why it didn't turn on, unfortunately the mansion started to come down around us, Gambit pushed me out of the way, only managed to twist my good ankle nothing else,"
OoC: Yes I already took another character, but I thought we would need a better GM'ed character to move on this section of the plot, so if you'd like you can choose another character also.
Mimic:
With the immediate danger averted, Cal turns his attention to Forge.
"Let me copy your powers," Cal offers. "I have some science background. Between us, Kitty, and Hank, we should be able to work out what happened. But right now, I agree that it'd be a good idea for Hank to look over Gambit in the medlab."
He then turns to Beast, looking over Gambit in the meanwhile.
"I could use your powers too," he adds. "I've got experience with them. And frankly, they'd help me work a whole lot faster. The sooner we get through the rubble and find out how this place got hit, the better."
"Agreed. If it's still intact then Gambit should get to the medlab quickly. I just hope that at least some of the machines are still working."
"Hmm...well okay then." Beast saidas he crouched down next to Gambit "But if you could lift Gambit to the infirmary like you did with the debris that would reduce the chance of further injury"
Hank was still tired from the battle but with a friend in bad condition, he didn't have any time to rest.
"That's probably a good idea," Mimic says. "Thanks. Just rest up if you need. I'll take care of Gambit."
Cal focuses on Beast's bio-signature. He feels the power around him, as he had since he arrived. He still felt a rush from all the powerful super-beings around him. At one time, he would have taken without asking, and loved it.
Xavier had taught him better. This time, he copies Beast's powers into one of his available slots. He feels himself growing stronger, faster, and more agile with each movement. He feels his feet growing larger and more dextrous. Cal allows himself a smile. Cal had almost forgotten how much he'd loved being able to bound around like the Beast.
Cal lifts Gambit in a magnetic bubble and escorts him to the infirmary. If this X-Mansion was the same as the one he knew, it was bound to be in one of the sub-levels...
Psylocke:
With a groan and a massive burst of telekinesis, Betsy Braddock blasted her way out of the rubble.
"Bloody hell," Betsy thought, stretching her sore muscles. "The villains never give us a day's peace, do they?"
Betsy felt good and angry. She'd been too slow to stop Apocalypse before he took Brian. Now he had her twin brother and his wife, and was doing who knew what to them. It had taken anger and willpower to blast her way out of the falling debris. If not for a telekinetic shield, she might not have made it at all.
She floated to the others, carried along by a TK shield. She recognized everyone but the one new arrival. He didn't seem to be a danger, and in fact looked like he was carrying an injured Gambit away. If she still had her telepathy, she would just have scanned his mind. But she'd lost that a long while ago.
Betsy approached the others, casting an intrigued eye in Mimic's direction.
"Lady and gentlemen, I sincerely hope one of you has a plan," Betsy says. "Apocalypse has my brother. Whatever it takes to get him back, count me in."
*
Mimic:
Cal seemed surprised to see Psylocke floating towards them.
Not because he didn't know Betsy. He did, but only by reputation. But how did she have telekinesis now? Last he'd heard, she was a telepath. He must be on the wrong world. Not that it mattered. They were still X-Men, and he wasn't about to abandon them now.
"I don't believe we've met," Cal says. "I'm Mimic. Though this isn't exactly my world, I'm in this fight. I owe a lot to Charles Xavier. But first we need to know what Apocalypse is after and where he's gone off to."
Psylocke arches her eyebrow, surprised. Cal guessed the Mimic of this world hadn't joined the X-Men. He took a mental note.
"As long as we don't take too long," she says grudgingly. "I'm rather in the mood to hit something. Whatever Apocalypse wants with my brother, it can't be good."
"We need to help Gambit first," Cal says. "Can you take him to the medlab? I would, but my magnetic powers might interfere with your equipment. Or I can copy your TK."
"I would, but I just expended a lot of power digging myself out. You're welcome to borrow whatever you need."
Cal smiled and nodded in thanks, then tried to focus on Betsy's bio-signature. Except something strange happened. He didn't know if it was because of her mystical origins or whatever changed her powers, but he knew he'd copied something wrong. It felt like he'd skipped a track on a CD.
Suddenly, though, he could feel the thoughts of everyone around him. Betsy's thoughts felt like a dead zone, but everywhere else he could feel the silent mental chatter. Cal remembered the sensation from the time he'd copied Jean Grey's powers. He'd somehow copied telepathy from her.
"It didn't come out right," Cal says, his brow furrowed in annoyance. "I somehow got telepathy instead."
"My powers were tampered with a while back," she explains. "I don't like to talk about it. You must have gotten my old abilities." She sighs. "But you're right. Best not to risk using magnetics down there. I'll take Gambit off your hands. Then we'll deal with Apocalypse."
"There's one bright side," Cal realizes. "If Cerebro is still working, I can use it to track down the captives. If not, maybe the science minds here can rebuild it."
Betsy nods grimly. She surrounds Gambit in a telekinetic field and allows Cal to drop the magnetic bubble. She then starts to head off in the direction of the medlab...
Juggernaut looks around and finds no more debris to smash. A little unsettled with nothing else to do, he turns and picks up Forge with one hand and carries him into the mansion, following Hank. He mumbles something about staying off a twisted ankle.
Juggernau'ts memories turned back to the encounter. He had been helpless... They had Sammy and he couldn't do anything to stop them. Quickly he refocused back to the task at hand before he crushed Forge subconsciously.
Juggernaut pipes up with a thought, "If the mansion's all closed up, I can make any doors you need."
~~~
Kitty felt drained and tired. So tired. She wanted to sink into unconsciousness right there, but she knew she couldn't. She had to help... somehow... how, she couldn't figure out right now. But she knew she had to go along with the others and do whatever she could. She followed Juggernaut, keeping her distance from the big brute. She didn't want him picking her up and crushing her.
With a thought, she veered off from the group, calling to them, "I'm gonna go find the Blackbird. See if it's still intact and get it ready, in case we need to go."
She knew she couldn't help in the realm of science or medical, but this was something she could do.
A brief thought passed through her mind - where or who was the fourth horseman?

"Let me copy your powers," Cal offers. "I have some science background. Between us, Kitty, and Hank, we should be able to work out what happened. But right now, I agree that it'd be a good idea for Hank to look over Gambit in the medlab."
"Sure you can copy my powers Mimic"
Forge waits while Mimic mimics him, then notices Psylocke busting out and watches as Mimic carries Gambit to the lower levels which are thankfully still in tact.
Juggernaut pipes up with a thought, "If the mansion's all closed up, I can make any doors you need."
"That's okay those doors were built out of adamantium and since Mimic copied my powers it would be easy to hotwire them, after all Gambit and I designed the security system here,"
With a thought, Kitty veered off from the group, calling to them, "I'm gonna go find the Blackbird. See if it's still intact and get it ready, in case we need to go."
"Okay, that's a good idea Kitty. Everybody else should meet in the war room once Gambit is settled in, we've got to take stock of what we've got. Juggernaut I'd like you to take me to the memorial garden, we didn't shut Ororo's tomb. I'd like to make sure she's still there," commanded Forge.
The team went their seperate ways. Kitty found that the tram to the Blackbird was still in tact and found that Apocalypse had neglected to destroy the Blackbird.
Beast and Mimic worked together and got Gambit to regain conciousness, with Mimic using Forge's powers to create some leg braces so Gambit could stand.
"Thanks alot mon amis. Shi'Ar technology, can't live without it. Though I've never met you before though you look like Mimic," said Gambit as he pointed to Mimic.
Juggernaut and Forge make it to Storm's tomb to find the top ripped off the beautiful statue of Storm destroyed and her coffin missing.
"Damn! They got Storm!" cursed Forge.
"Juggernaut let's get to the War Room now!"

Mimic works with Forge, adapting his powers to help out.
He's barely aware of how much easier science comes to him. Like Forge's power of invention opened pathways in his mind he'd never imagined before. He'd been okay at science before, but now... it felt so much different. If his father had been able to do this, maybe he wouldn't have ended up as a broken failure.
"Thanks alot mon amis. Shi'Ar technology, can't live without it. Though I've never met you before though you look like Mimic," said Gambit as he pointed to Mimic.
"That's because I am him... kind of," he says. "I'm from a parallel world. I used to be part of a team called the Exiles. Our job was to go to different worlds and fix broken realities. The whole Quantum Leap thing. Until my time was up. I was supposed to be sent back home. I guess something got screwed up, cause I landed here instead."
Cal just shook his head. He didn't want to think about what happened. He'd just end up getting angry again. He focused on what he could do now. He buried his mounting frustration and went on.
"Doesn't matter," he says finally. "Right now, my place is with the X-Men. If you're ready, we should probably get to the war room. I want some answers."
Besides, maybe helping out would mean he'd get back home, though he left it unsaid. He might be stuck here forever. But he couldn't ignore the possibility that he was sent here for a reason...
When Gambit is ready, Mimic heads off to the war room...
*
Psylocke waited in the war room for everyone to arrive. She felt useless and angry. She was a warrior. Science was her brother's passion, not hers. Until someone showed up, Betsy meditated, recovering her psychic strength...

Once Kitty finds the Blackbird and sees that it's okay, she heads for the war room to report her findings.
In the Jet Kitty our favorite purple dragon Lockheed who was in hiding, he is holding a sign that says: "I wasn't scared, really I wasn't" he then follows behind Kitty.
Forge:
As Juggernaut takes Forge to the war room, he asks, "Why do you think they want a stiff?"
"There are two possibilites. The first one is that he wanted to turn her into a horseman though he usually takes living mutants, the second is that he wants to mess with us even more. I'm hoping it's the latter because though Storm and I have long broken up, I still have feelings for her. I don't know if I could face her as a horseman," said Forge.
The two made it to the War Room quickly.
Gambit:
"That's because I am him... kind of," he says. "I'm from a parallel world. I used to be part of a team called the Exiles. Our job was to go to different worlds and fix broken realities. The whole Quantum Leap thing. Until my time was up. I was supposed to be sent back home. I guess something got screwed up, cause I landed here instead."
"Interesting, so what am I like in your reality mon ami? Bet I'm not as good looking,"joked Gambit with a sly smile as he walked the short distance to the War Room with Mimic.
Gambit and Mimic arrived just as Kitty, Lockheed, Forge, and Juggernaut entered. Beast entered a few seconds later. Once everyone gets seated Forge speaks:
"I think before we choose someone to permenantly lead the group we should have a look at what's happened so far," said Forge as he pulled up the security camera feed.
"First we have Storm's funeral, all goes well until the last few lines of Professor X's speech, if I hadn't disabled the security systems on purpose we would have possibly had more warning, but as you can see that was not to be as a power disabling ray just happened from nowhere, and with it Apocalypse and his horsemen Sabretooth, Omega Red, and Holocaust, and enough infinites to stand in for the entire population of a small country. Holocaust destroyed the upper mansion while Sabretooth and Omega Red took out the non-mutants like Captain Britain, and Meggan. The effects of the de-powering ray were only temporary but in that time they managed to get everyone but us. Gambit and I were headed to enable the security systems manually, but we unfortunately didn't make it, the rubble luckily fell around me in a shell, but Gambit got injured. We also met another Mimic who's apparently from an alternate dimension. We then proceded here but Juggernaut and I took a detour and found that Storm's corpse was stolen in the confusion, which means Storm may already be a horseman. Any questions?" explained Forge.
"As for the question of leadership I think we should take a vote, any nominations?" asked Forge.

Mimic: Cal listened to Forge's report with interest, and not a little concern. "Firstly, I'd like to know if Cerebro's working," Cal said. "If we're going to mount a rescue, we need to know where Apocalypse is holding the captives. He wants them alive, because otherwise he'd have just killed them right off." "After that, I'd like to know if there's any way we can counter that power-dampener. I seem to recall, Forge, that you're an expert on those. If we can at least make some portable devices to protect ourselves from the dampener's effects, we should. I dunno about you folks, but I'm not going to take the chance that Poccy might turn that device on us once we make our move." Cal then turned his attention to the rest of the group. "As far as leadership... I won't presume that I have any right to lead. I'm new to your universe. You people don't even know me, much less have any reason to trust me. So let me offer to level the playing field. I'll mind-link with all of you that aren't psi-immune. You can scan my thoughts and my memories, and you can decide for yourself whether to trust me or not." "You may ask why I'm doing this," Cal says. "I'm doing this because this is a serious crisis, and some of you are too personally involved. I don't have to tell you who you are. I'm not going to follow anyone whose head isn't in the game. I trust you all to do likewise. There are too many lives at stake." "I'll lead if you want me to," he says finally. "If you think you can trust me. If not, fair enough. I'd back Hank if he wants the job." At that point, Mimic will mind-link with everyone but psi-immune characters. He will then allow them to scan his thoughts and memories... OoC: I'm not going to recount Mimic's whole history in this post. If any of you really want to know who he is, his profile at X-Fan will tell you what you need to know. Just stick with his basic history up until his joining the Exiles (about the first four paragraphs). Don't worry about knowing everything that happened in Exiles, since I'm playing a little loose with continuity anyway. * Psylocke: Psylocke looks to the others. "Mimic's right about one thing," Betsy admits. "I'm unfit for command. I'm too personally involved. I'm bowing out of this one. You lot can fight it out for yourselves." "Beast would be my first choice," she says. "Though I don't see any reason not to trust Mimic, from what he's shown us. All I care about is getting Brian and Meggan back. I don't care who does it."

Juggernaut responds, "You can lead all you want, but you can't mess with my head. All I want is to smash some heads in and get Sammy back. I'll follow whoever helps me get that."

Kitty looks around the room and finally speaks, "I don't think I'm qualified to lead. I'll do my part, whatever it may be." Lockheed growls an agreement. Kitty subconsciously pets him.

"Deal," Cal agrees, looking to Juggernaut. "Long as things get done, you've got no problems from me. Should be more than enough big bads to go around."
Cal nods to Kitty, understanding. If she was like the Kitty of his world, Storm had been like a mother to her. He couldn't blame her for sitting this one out.
He finally looks to Hank, expectantly...
*
Betsy watches the others carefully. Especially Mimic, who she'd never met before now. Something about him reminded her of Scott Summers. But there was something else, too... an edge to him, carefully controlled. He was a mystery, and an intriguing one. She'd have fun finding out, she decided.
Betsy resolved to keep a closer watch on Mimic, just in case...

Hank listened to the discussion quietly with concern. This team was forced together and compared to Apocalypse and his forces, this small team just didn't seem enough.
But as Professor Xavier taught him: never lose hope. Hank had to remain calm and keep a positive outlook. He was the most senior X-Man here and he felt a responsibility to keep this squad together.
After hearing the nominations from the group Hank took his turn to speak to the rest of the team. "Well I'd be happy to lead if that's what people think." Hank then turned to Forge. "But I feel that Forge here is also more than qualified to lead us"
"And I think seeing if Cerebro is working is the first course of action. But if it has been damaged, but it is still repariable and I have the proper equipment I could try to fix it" Hank said.
Hank waited for the rest of the team to speak. He felt that this would be a long and hard mission but his fellow X-Men of course, would need rescuing.

Mimic shook his head as he looked to Hank. He could feel Forge's agitated thoughts, though he tried to keep out of his mind. He also felt conflicted about something.
"No offense, Forge," Cal says. "But I'm not sure you're in any condition to lead. If we have to fight Storm, I'd feel better with someone else making the calls."
"We need a leader who can stay focused and has the ability to do the job," he goes on, turning to Beast. "I'd prefer Scott, but he's not available. Everyone else has abstained. That means either me or you."
"I'd be willing to help with Cerebro," Cal says. "I've used it before. I'm also our only active telepath. With what I copied from Forge, I might be able to pitch in."

Gambit puts in his two cents:
"Couldn't care less about who leads as long as they don't cramp my style," said Gambit as he lit a cigarette, and took a puff.
Forge then has his say:
"I think due to my involvement with Storm I cannot lead, and I have a pretty sketchy record as a leader anyway, so Mimic I think you're best suited for the job also," said Forge with some slight hesitation.
"Cerebro, is offline currently, I was helping Xavier work on some tweaks and improvements and we wanted to get it done before Storm's funeral but we were having trouble implementing the more radical improvements that he wanted. Though with Mimic's help we should be able to get it finished in a couple hours, it will give you guys some time to rest or train if need be, we'll notify you as soon as we get it fixed," explained Forge.
