Everyone is escorted onto McClellan Space Base, a UNA military base refitted for the New Home project. The base is very large, sprawling with buildings of various sizes, though all in very drab colors and uniform design. You are driven to a row of low buildings that serve as classrooms. As you get off the buses, you notice other groups of people being taken to different rooms. You are all escorted into a classroom labeled C. It is very plain and sterile. Contrasting this harsh environment is a smiling, energetic woman, who greets you all upon entering.
“Welcome! Welcome. You are all now a part of Team Chaos! I am Sergeant Victoria Harden. I will be one of your drill instructors during your time at boot camp,” she smiles brightly and gestures to chairs that have been arranged in a circle, “Please, everyone take a seat. Before we beginning training together, I think we should all get to know one another. So if anyone would like to start, just say your name, maybe where you come from, what your goals are. Just share.”

Peter Defoe smiles, “Hello fellows!” his green eyes sparkling, “My name is Defoe, Peter Defoe! I was born right here in the UNA! I believe in good hygiene, and make sure that everyone is in their tip-top condition. And I must say,” leaning towards the man wearing coveralls sitting next to him, and sniffs, “That is a very interesting smell you have!”
The quiet, almost indistinguishable man wearing coveralls clears his throat, and says in a somewhat deep voice, “its mechanical oil.”
Peter, “Oooh! Very interesting!” Peter drapes his arm over the man’s shoulders, “I do believe it’s your turn!”
The man seems not to be bothered or even notices Defoe’s actions. He clears his throat, “My name is Gregory Putts. That’s two t’s,” holding up two fingers, “I was born in the UNA. And I like fixing stuff…” he turns and looks quizzically at Peter, who has now laid his head on Gregory’s shoulder and is sighing wistfully. Turning back to the group, Gregory says, “I think that’s about it.”

Seated at the back of the group, Karl Tanaka coolly watches the responses of those around him. They would all be depending upon each other's skills, and any strengths or weaknesses in his fellows had better be identified fast, before they became truly important. He didn't like the sound of 'Team Chaos'. He'd just have to make sure it was more like 'Team Order' in practise.
Was it a little too soon to test the others? He doubted it.
"I am Karl Tanaka," he said, the cool confidence that had carried him through many social gatherings and a few very unsocial gatherings rising to the fore. "I am a citizen of Earth, you might say."
He looked around the room, meeting each eye. "If none here are better qualified, I intend to lead this team in the field."
Their responses would tell him everything he needed to know about them in this one vital respect. No. It was not too soon to throw down the gauntlet - and far more importantly, to begin to wield this unit into a true team.

Peter looks admiringly at Karl and says in an oozing voice, "You are truuuly the soldier. I wouldn't mind following you anywhere..." he smiles, his eyes glint and gives Karl a wink.

Corina nods cooly at Karl, also exuding confidence and sitting tall in her seat, "I care not for leading. I am an inventor and that is my true joy, though I will follow one who is worthy into a fight," her eyes meet Karl's, "It remains to be seen whether anyone here is qualified."
Sergeant Harden interjects, "I'm glad we're off to such a good start, but I must point out that you will all become a team, a unit, and there will be times when one person leads and times when someone else leads," she smiles encouragingly at Corina, "Don't forget to tell everyone your name."
Corina sighs, "My name is Corina Laun and I was born in the Asian Empire."
Gregory raises an eyebrow,"The same Corina Laun that invented the hazard suit? That is a remarkable piece of equipment."
Peter starts nudging Gregory in the ribs and says in a stage whisper, "I see you like the ones who have brains." he has a big goofy smile on his face and he giggles.
Gegory seems not to notice Defoe, still looking at Corina.
Corina looks over at Gregory and nods, "I am. Thank you."

From his seat in the middle of the room, Eduardo Del Sol slowly rises. Hey slowly surveys his fellow team members, then begins to speak in a gentle, yet steady voice which belies his large frame.
"My name is Eduardo Del Sol, and I am from Allied South America."
He pauses for a few seconds, his eyes focused on the floor, then continues again, stammering slightly.
"I--I've come to New Home in the hopes of finding a hospitable planet, so that my parent's farm might be sustained."
He seems to be getting visibly nervous, and begins to rush as he finishes introducing himself.
"I've also always wanted to explore the galaxy. Hopefully, my skills will be of use to the group."
And with that, Eduardo quickly sits down and let's out a soft, but clearly audible, sigh of relief.

Marius Benedict grunts from his seat in the back row, listening to the others. He had no interest in drawing attention to himself. At his side, his daughter Julie smiles brightly and eagerly, standing up. This earns a scowl from Marius, who otherwise says nothing. He just silently hopes the kid doesn't blow his carefully built cover...
"Hi, my name's Julie Benedict," she says with a bright-eyed glance at the others. "It's so really nice to meet you all. We're from the UNA, but we've had to move around system all the time cause Dad's always working. I came with my dad, and we're kinda hoping to find a new planet out there to live in peace. This moldy old Earth's just not doing it for us anymore, and I just know space is the future. Earth's just so crowded right now, and I'm really not an Outer System girl, know what I'm saying? Anyway, I'm just happy to help, and just call on me if you need anything fixed."
"C'mon, Dad, say something," Julie urges, seeing Marius roll his eyes. "It's just a couple words."
Marius rises for a moment, annoyed at having to play ball but resigned to it. He doesn't want to draw attention to himself before they finally leave Earth...
"Name's Marius," he says, trying to keep the irritation out of his voice. "I been a `lancer out system last few years. Contract jobs and suchlike. Don't like nobody tellin' me my business, so I been out solo. Got tired of damn bureaucrats. Got the girl to provide for, and the System ain't no kind of life for her. Figure gettin' off system gets us a fresh start without fuss for nobody."
Marius then pauses, gritting his teeth at the idea of serving under anyone else. A smile from Julie causes his expression to soften just slightly.
"Don't rightly care `bout no leader crap," Marius says. "Makes no never mind t'me who's barkin' orders. Long's you stay outta my way and don't get my girl killed, ain't my problem. Gonna do my part to keep us alive, whichever."
Marius sits down again. He hated being prodded like this, but tries not to show it...
"I don't care about being leader either," Julie chimes in happily. "I don't know anything about that stuff. I'll follow anybody knows what they're doing, all right?"
Julie sits down, glances at Marius, and then waits for the next person to speak...

As each member of the New Home project introduces himself, Jen and Jes look at each other whisper something to the other and smile. What this meant would be hard for even the people who knew them to figure out, but more than likely they were up to something. In fact it would be very unusual if they weren't.
When Victoria Harden gets around to them Jen and Jes stand up at the same time. "I'm Jes and this is Jen," says Jen as she looks at the group and smiles. "She is not. I'm Jes and this is Jen," says Jes looking at the group and giving them the same identical smile. "No way," says Jen. "I'm Jes and she's Jen and we're from the UNA." "We're really big into computers and all the technical stuff," says Jes, "but I'm Jes and she is Jen.
"Don't believe her," says Jen. I'm Jes and she is Jen and I can hack any computer and crack any communication system with the best." "Don't believe her," says Jes. "I'm Jes and she is Jen and our parents were part of several space projects before we were born, and it has always been our dream to travel in space like they did."
"Thank you," they say together with a smile. Then they sit down at the same time and in exactly the same way, look at each other and giggle.

Peter squeals with delight, "Accents, twins, quiet giants! OOooowww I'm so excited!" He bounces up and down in his seat.
He then pops his hand up as if going to ask a question. Before Harden can respond he begins talking, "Can I give special code names to my team mates?"

"Cool," they say together and then smiling at each other. "That sounds like a great idea," says Jen. "And lots of fun," adds Jes. "What would you call us?"

Sergeant Harden smiles at Peter, "Nicknames are a great way to show that you've become closer to someone. I'm fine with the idea, but make sure that the person to whom you are giving the nickname agrees. Some people might be offended or not ready to be that close."

"Hmmm..." Peter's eyes twinkle and big broad smile goes across his face, "A challenge!" He stands up and walks over to Jen & Jes. He begins studying them a little too closely, perhaps an inch between him and them. He also begins sniffing them. Then measuring the length of their arms compared to his arms. Tries to figure out how much space is between their fingers. He pulls out two popsicle sticks and ask them, "Please lick these," he holds one out to each of them, "Once you do that, I shall tell you your nicknames! In the meantime, you can call me Dr. D, and he's Putsy," he points to Gregory.
In response, Gregory blinks, then asks, "Can that be spelled with two t's?"
Peter shakes his head no and waves him off with a hand, "Of course not silly. Then it wouldn't be a nickname!"

Carmencita Ibanez had quietly watched from her seat, judging the situation as people introduced themselves. She could she the trouble already. The two loose cannons of the show had already proven they wouldn't play ball. Karl and Marius.
Carmencita finally rose from her seat and stood up straight.
<"My name is Carmencita Ibanez. Formally of the Allied South American Army, were I was a trained pilot and communications officer."> She smiled
"For those of you not versed in culture" She said almost in a derogratory tone "My name is Carmencita Ibanez" She looked across the room, "Formally of the Allied South American Army, were I was a trained pilot and communications officer. "
She then looked at Karl, "As far as I'm concerned Mr. Tanaka, you haven proven yourself to be more then a rude loud mouth. So feel free to bark orders, but don't expect me to listen to them." She smiled in a cynical way.
And finally, changing her view to Peter, she continues "You may call me Ms. Ibanez"
Sitting down, it was hard for any in the room not to notice she never once looked at the cyborg.

What a collection, Karl mused to himself. While I enjoy a challenge, this begins to resemble more of a cosmic joke. There is no doubt I will have my work cut out for me here. Gregory is not forceful enough. If Peter were any more obviously trying to provoke a reaction he'd be in a pink jumpsuit and a 'kiss me quick' hat. Marius isn't going to take kindly to anyone, and his daughter will follow his lead... Eduardo is underconfident and will need help. Jes and Jen will be wearing if they keep that up all the time... Very wearing, he added after a moment's thought. And Carmencita... Well, a bigger snob than me. That's truly unexpected. At least Corina was capable. One out of ten though... Not a promising start.
Smiling easily, Karl allows his eyes to spark with humour. "Be careful with your promises, my friend," he says. "I may just hold you to them."
In his time, Karl had experimented with nearly everything. Whether Peter was really gay or merely pretending made no difference to him at all. His skills in the field would be all that counted.
"I agree entirely," karl nodded with a smile. He would get on with Corina, he was sure. She had the right attitude.
"I'm sure they will be, Eduardo," Karl replies. "I have no doubt of your abilities, nor or your potential. nor that of anyone here." His eyes scan the room, almost in challenge. It was never to soon to start working on Eduardo's confidence, nor on the team spirit they would need to survive.
He would hold comment on Julie and Marius right now. The man would object to any comments made to his daughter until the team were more strongly established. Karl would have to prove himself again and again before Marius would even be polite, let alone trust him. Karl's eyes sparkled at the challenge. He would enjoy it immensely.
"Have I given any orders Ms Ibanez?" Karl replied politely, inwardly thanking her for the opening she had given him. he would talk to her, but he was really addressing the entire group.
"I do not believe for one moment that anyone should follow anyone else unless they are completely convonced of that person's ability to lead. In the field, it will be vital that we all come to rely on and trust each other. You would be a fool to trust to my abilities on my unsupported word, and I do not believe anyone here is a fool."
His eyes slowly scan the room. "That we are in this room is proof that we are an elite, ladies and gentlemen. Never forget it. We are amongst the best that humanity and human ingenuity has to offer. We have been carefully chosen for this team; for the hopes of our world to rest on our shoulders. I believe that we... All of us! - are worthy of that trust."
Smiling a little, Karl settles back into his seat, awaiting the laughter and the protests he knows will follow.

Peter smiles at Ms. Ibanez. "Ms. Ibanez is great! It sounds so...commanding."
After hearing Karl speak Peter cheers. He then runs over to Karl and gives him a hug around the neck. "you're so nice and sooo...naughty. We can't have any of that since I'll be your doctor. Everyone knows that a doctor patient relationship is a no no." He smiles broadly then gives Karl another hug with his mouth close to Karl's ear. In a cold emotionless voice that only Karl can hear, "As your doctor I will have your records. You will be most vulnerable when you are near me." Peter then pops up with a big smile. You almost wonder if Peter has more than one personality. He then returns to Jess and Jen.

As Peter makes his big display Gregory seems to become less substancial until he becomes invisible. (The cover alls he is wearing double as an advance stealth unit)
After Peter walks away Gregory seems to appear out of no where right beside Karl. Whispering to Karl he says, "I don't think he'll do anything. Besides I'll keep my eyes on him. I'm just glad my nick name is Putsy and not Grease Monkey."

"Likewise," Gregory replies. "I was in classroom D with him yesterday. We were going to be team Dino or Disco...anyway he," nodding at Peter's back, "scared the rest of the team away. Since two people couldn't go on a mission by ourselves they put us in here." Gregory sits and thinks for a moment, "After the instructor ran crying out of the room Defoe just started laughing like a mad man. Then he stopped saw me sitting there and called me Putsy. The next person we saw was Ms. Harden over there telling us we would be joing C class." Gregory looks around, "She also mentioned there would be two instructors. I wonder where the other one is?" On that last remark Gregory slowly starts fading out.

"Yuck," says Jen and Jes together. "There is no way I'm going to lick that thing for you," says Jen. "If you want someone to lick it, lick it yourself," says Jes.
They then look over at Victoria Harden and Jes says "I think this guy is crazy." "Not just crazy," adds Jen, "but plain whacky." "Are you sure you should be letting him into outer space?" asks Jes. "Or, are you planning to accidently lose him out there to make the world a better place?" asks Jen and the two of them laugh. "We'll help, push him out the door if you want," they say together and then look at each other and giggle.
