Tsel... The three books Tolkien wrote are The Hobbit, LoTR and The Silmarillion Even Silmarillion was not entirely completed to Tolkien's satisfaction, but on the Nth draft, IIRC. The rest of Tolkien's books were put together from his extremely extensive notes by Christopher Tolkien, who, I believe, is his son (Though I might be wrong. Might be grandson or something like that...) Oh, the Silmarillion. That was my most favorite of them all. Tsel

I always liked The Hobbit best, I think Silmarillion is a great book, but the Hobbit is polished to a state of perfection I actually rate LoTR as the least of the three...

The rest of Tolkien's books were put together from his extremely extensive notes by Christopher Tolkien, who, I believe, is his son (Though I might be wrong. Might be grandson or something like that...) That would include The Silmarillion, too. It was Christopher (who is indeed his son) who put it together and with the help of another writer gave them as much coherence as they could. Some of the stories were complete (like the Lay of Luthien) but a lot had to be arranged and partially rewritten. Christopher Tolkien himself makes it evident in the later chapters of The History of Middle Earth. Everything they could not fit eventually became part of the also excellent Unfinished Tales.

Here's a bright idea: Make a LoTR thread! And honestly I'm happy there were only three Lord of the Rings movies so that there was an end in sight (even if I missed the anticipation for another movie). And there's rumored to be a TV adaptation of the Hobbit to be made soon enough as well. But back on topic: I found the pic of the Snow Queen / White Witch I liked so much! Here it is: White WitchJust stunning. I don't care if Tilda is a hag, lol.

Great scenery, but the White Witch should look like a fairytale queen.
I mean seriously, would YOU trust someone who looked like that, the way Edmund does? Or would you run for your life?

Here's a bright idea: Make a LoTR thread! It's your fault. You know you can't mention Tolkien without me co-opting the thread.

Great pics Phil. And yes, I think this will be a definite see when it hits the theatres. The more I see and read about it, the more I think my oldest will enjoy it. Oh, and me too. Shan

She's magical too, by the way. Magic does strange things to a person, no? I just noticed something else I might NOT like about her though: now I remember her hair was supposed to be a lustrous black. WHat's up with that? WHy is she a ruddy blonde now? And Aslan's eyes aren't supposed to be green, they should have been amber brown. Hm...

Hollywood never gets things exactly right so I try not to stress over the details because I know it's not going to be a true adaptation.
