Ok, it's beed decided and I won't be doing my master thesis on a company. My skills wheren't all that well suited for the job they wanted done. And based on the feedback of the guy who interviewed me (I'd asked for his oppinion on how I did) it appears I sold myself a bit short. Instead I will be doing my thesis on the university. I will be working on improving a simulator by creating a human entity that will be moving around in it. Or something like that. I don't really know yet because we haven't had time to write the specification, we will be doing that next week. There was a lot of flexibility in when we could meet and do this. My teacher was avaliable all days. Exept monday, tuesday, wednesday and friday. So basically, that left us with thursday. But on thursday he was avaliable all day at least. Well, exept for the time between 8 and 17. So, next thursday at 17 I will know exactly what I'll be doing for the next six months. I'm looking forward to this, I think it will be both interesting and challenging. Übereil

But on thursday he was avaliable all day at least. Well, exept for the time between 8 and 17. Flexibility indeed. ;D That looks like a neat project though. I should be a dad in 2-3 weeks. Sweet! Man, the anxiousness, hehe. Congrats on the new home, ss. Beautiful dogs that come from that place, too. Thanks Fille, and are you talking about the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.?? Yes! They're a little rare around here, but those I know who have one have a very good experience with him. From what I see, I would go with a flat-coated, Chesapeake-bay, golden or duck-trolling retriever anytime over the labradors, which are yet extremely popular. Just wanted to say "hello" again. In "my" forum I'm moderating in the recent days have been very, very tough. A very ill member hs been declered dead, but she isn't now everyone - including me, as a moderator - is trying to find out who that was. And suddenly we - the few active moderators - found out that we can't trust most people anymore. Well, at least some. And that we know in fact less than we had always thought we knew. This is getting on my nerves. This is very serious, but I don't know how to handle it. Without the help I get there, I could be nearly helpless. So far, we assume that someone somehopw got into an account - which is going on my nerves, too. It just makes me feel uneasy. We're not too near to resolving it soon. We just don't have enough information. Only small puzzle-pieces, so far. But still we *must* go on trying to find out more about it. Yeah, checking the IP addresses may give you a clue on whether the account was broken into, but that's not necessarily reliable either if the person accesses to the boards at different places or if they use means to change it. Trusting online is difficult... Is there a reason for which people would need to "reveal" their real identity on that forum? (Morality and relationships aside; thinking, like, for contracts, payment, Terms of service of the board, etc.) If not, there may be little you can do to ensure that there is no imposture, unfortunately... If there is strong suspicion that an account was hacked and that the person confirms it, it could be a good idea to report it to the company that provides the hosting/software and to have the person get a new account. From my (limited) personal experience in such context, I think there is pretty much nothing we can do to ensure that people are really who they claim to be so it's a reality we have to adapt to and always keep in mind. I'm sure most people are relatively honest, but I'm also sure that some take advantage of the anonymity (just for the fun of playing a role, to make people react, to manipulate people or whatever). As such, I think trying to incite people not to trust blindly and making sure that no one stirs trouble is all we can do, unfortunately. Since I can't oblige people not to take an identity that isn't theirs nor verify if their claims are true unless we get in touch more personally and get more private information, I have to accept the fact that there's some impostors out there that I may be rubbing shoulders with, live with that and give everyone the benefit of doubt as long as they don't behave against the rules. =/ Changing the rules is an option, but there are limits there too and (IMO) even bigger disadvantages... Fortunately, a close-knit and dedicated community exchanging in a clear structure can be enough to overcome such situations and purge the unproductive behaviors without needing to get into legalese stuff, I think. I hope you'll be able to solve the issues there without too many people hurt.

Hello, again,
Updaste : Everythings a bit more quiet again.
But still this is like ... as if things have changed a little bit.
At least I'm glad that it is quiet again.
We already did some research, but without professionals we're relatively helpless.
Now everyday moderating gets back agaiun. That's a relief for me, because everything became just a bit too much for me and it all went (in)to my head.
Now I can relax a little bit again.

First bad experience when you're running a forum is always the worst, Alrik. Not sure how comforting that will be, but it's so. You tear yourself apart in an agony of trying to make sure you are doing your best, fair to everyone and - above all! - that you make the right decision. Because you feel that to be wrong would somehow be to let everyone down. But it's not. As long as you do your best and your boardies can tell that you are really trying, chances are they'll support you. They realise you are human and do not expect you to be without fault. Occasional pain is the price of running anything, even the world's best forum (Which would be this one, IMO, but I might be a little biased ;D). But the good times make it more than worth it - so stick to your guns!

It's no wonder that it would be straining. Good that things are settling, though, and hopefully it will be for good.

My exams are finally over. Most of them will be failed, but I now know how to handle things. Looking forward to the next semester and actually I'm actually already looking forward to my resits too. I know I will things now in a much better way.

The only we can do with failures is learn from them. Those are valuable lessons too. Übereil

...Then the failures at the last exams aren't so bad news. Good for you to take that as an opportunity to learn.

Yeah, I expected the Larian forum to become super-active with the release of D2, but it just hasn't happened. Shame, but maybe it'll pick up once sales do. Hopefully it'll be a slow gainer, as D1 was.

So no one wants to write with me? I've had one running for almost three years on the German RP-Board of Larian's before it faded out - one author died, one left, three additional joined the core 6 'on the run'. I'd consider it, if the setting appeals to me* - even though my time is restricted and prone to sudden interruptions since Im self employed. (*which means fantasy, light sience fiction possibly - no super hero stuff)

Hey y'all I was quiet lately. Things are getting worse. I probably won't get a new visa for Australia, they most likely won't accept BF's & my de facto status. Only way we could still get a visa would be marriage - which we can't afford. (marriage offical guy plus trainticket to get there plus registration fee plus traintickets to get all the papers = about 300€) The mould that is growing in our flat also started to make me sick, so we reduced the rent (which not helps my sickness but our budget..) We're running out of general living money, so we're on a forced super strict diet consisting of toast and um well yeah.. toast. Just came back from 4 hour coal trip - took an hour longer than usual because the weather decided to be a snowstorm @ Tasha, thanks for the FB comment Life's a [Censored]ing shithole.
