William, It Was Really Nothing - the Smiths How can you stay with a fat girl who'll say : "Oh ! Would you like to marry me ? "And if you like you can buy the ring" She doesn't care about anything! Would you like to marry me ? And if you like you can buy the ring, I don't dream about anyone - except myself! Oh, Janggut, Janggut it was really nothing ;D -SHARK DIGGLER

HAIRDRESSER ON FIRE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is London, giddy of London Is it home of the free - Or what ?
Can you squeeze me Into an empty page of your diary And psychologically save me I've got faith in you I sense the power Within the fingers Within an hour the power Could totally destroy me (Or, it could save my life)
Oh, here is London "Home of the brash, outrageous and free" You are repressed But you're remarkably dressed Is it Real ? And you're always busy
Really busy Busy, busy Oh, hairdresser on fire All around Sloane Square And you're just so busy Busy, busy Busy scissors Oh, hairdresser on fire (Only the other day)
Was a client, over-cautious He made you nervous And when he said "I'm gonna sue you" Oh, I really felt for you ...mmm...
So can you squeeze me Into an empty page of your diary; And supernaturally change me ? Change me, change Oh, here in London "Home of the brash, outrageous and free" You are repressed But you're remarkably dressed Is it Real ? And you're always busy
Really busy Busy clippers Oh, hairdresser on fire All around Sloane Square
And you're just too busy To see me Busy clippers Oh, hairdresser on fire (Only the other day)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Excellent cavorting B-side to Suedehead, based on an experience where Morrissey couldn't find an appointment with a hairdresser. He ludicrously turned this incident into this very catchy song, which works as well as a track on Bona Drag as a B-side. His intoxication with big city London is soon revealed as built on rocky foundations when he fails to be supernaturally saved by his Sloane Square hairdresser. Affirms that he has not lost his sharp wit by going solo.

Sing Yor Life is awesome! One of my favorite Morrissey videos, for sure. Jang, whenever you get a hold of a faster connection, please do check out the video.
By the way, have you heard Tomorrow yet? It's track 20 on the The Best of. Probably should reply on the Morrissey thread, so we don't piss off the locals ;D -SHARK DIGGLER

PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES -THE SMITHS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon the sand, upon the bay "There is a quick and easy way" you say Before you illustrate I'd rather state : "I'm not the man you think I am I'm not the man you think I am"
And Sorrow's native son He will not smile for anyone
And Pretty Girls Make Graves Oh ...
End of the pier, end of the bay You tug my arm, and say : "Give in to lust, Give up to lust, oh heaven knows we'll Soon be dust ... "
Oh, I'm not the man you think I am I'm not the man you think I am
And Sorrow's native son He will not rise for anyone
And Pretty Girls Make Graves Oh really ? Oh ...
I could have been wild and I could have Been free But Nature played this trick on me
She wants it Now And she will not wait But she's too rough And I'm too delicate
Then, on the sand Another man, he takes her hand A smile lights up her stupid face (and well, it would)
I lost my faith in Womanhood I lost my faith in Womanhood I lost my faith ... Oh ...
Hand in glove ... The sun shines out of our behinds ... Oh ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of my favourite songs on The Smiths, Pretty Girls Make Graves borrows its title from the beat novelist Jack Kerouac. The tale of the confused gay man beguiled by a woman is excellently written, fitting in with Marr's funk-influenced melody; the opening verse seems to be hinting at suicide until the next phrase "I'm not the man you think I am" points towards another story altogether. After the gay man refuses the advances of the woman of the story, he is filled with an illogical jealousy upon seeing her with another man, as he wishes he could be "normal" like everybody else ("Nature played this trick on me"). Absent from the lyric sheet is the coda of an excerpt from the lyrics of Hand In Glove. I particularly like this as it reminds me of the hero of the tale wistfully imagining a romance such as the one in that song (and of course, it's a chance for Morrissey to stuff that song in our faces again).

He was a sweet and tender hooligan, hooligan And he said that he'd never, never do it again And of course he won't (oh, not until the next time) ;D
Sweet & Tender Hooligan - The Smiths
mr Shankly, the song Tomorrow has yet to sink into my soul but i think it won't be long so let's sing the other songs because whatever right still end up wrong ;D
..... a pathetic attempt to write like morrissey.
