Steve, if you made it through the first story and enjoyed even a small part of it, read on. It gets better and better. Kishimoto writes a very good story. He can intrigue you, build the suspense, hold you in suspense, and deliver the final blow and leave you saying wow. Shan

As for my favorite character, I think Phil could guess from the things we have talked about. I love Naruto. None of the other character have yet come close to him for me. Shan

Okay, finished Ch. 2-3. This is gradually picking up somewhat. The supporting cast is gradually coming together, which is probably why it takes some time to build. So yeah, I agree that it gets better. Still fondest of Naruto, but then he drives most of the action anyway. The interesting thing to me is how he feels so isolated, which drives him to pull stupid stunts to get attention... and then drives people off. He's self-destructive, but in a fascinating way. I am enjoying the little love triangle going on in Naruto's ninja band. Especially as it drives Naruto to do even crazier things. Probably will get around to Ch. 4 before too long...

It picks up even more starting with chapter 4, Steve. Now comes the good stuff, action, suspense, intrigue. Shan

I'm glad you are enjoying it Steve.
If you do like it enough to go on Steve, please remember I (or Shan?) will be able to send you any chapter that you might want to read immediately until around Ch 38. I really think you would like the Wave Country mission.
Ch 39 is where you'll have to pick it up by downloading it from fan sites. It won't lose too much in translation but the cleans might be a little iffy for a while.

I'd also like to mention that I got a bit better at keeping the pages constantly white and in sharp contrast than I did in these early chapters. Just so you know

They've all been good in my opinion. I haven't had any trouble reading any of them since I got past the read from right to left thing. Man, did I do alot of rereading to start with, but I've got it right now. ;D Shan

I'd just like to add here, for anybody wondering, that chapters 9 to 33 (after the initial 8 chapters) includes the start and an end of ONE single long storyline.

I once caught myself reading an American comic right to left. I have that problem ALL the time. hmmm...I promised some comments, didn't I? Well, with internet being down and then going to work, I've completel forgotten what I was going to say. Let me re-read the latest chapters and post again, hopefully tomorrow. (I still haven't read Shojo Beat! But that just goes to show that I like action more than romance. ) Oh, my favorite character right now is Kabuto. I don't care what side he's working for - he's cool. And cute! ^_~ Though Hinata is also a fav and always will be. Can't wait to get to more with her in it.

Sarah, Kabuto and Hinata must be characters that show up in later chapters, right? I have read through chapter 29 and have seen nothing of them as far as I can remember. Shan

Phil could tell you when they show up, but I can't. All I can tell you is that you'll meet Hinata before Kabuto.

Both Hinata and Kabuto will be introduced in the next storyline (After Ch 33), Shan Get ready, there will be new characters everywhere! Sarah, you'll be happy with the prelimenaries then, as it will reveal more about Hinata. Kabuto is still a mystery even now at chapter 266 tho... but he'll be a recurring character. Phil

Cool, can't wait till next month then, but then I can never wait for the next SJ. Only time will tell if I feel the same way about SB.
oooh, I always liked a mystery man. ^_~
hehe...
Anyway, here are my comments about chapters 65 & 66. These are mostly directed towards Phil since I don't think anyone else here has read this far...
At the gathering of everyone, when they were showing what everyone was thinking, I so wanted the names of the characters to be printed next to each of them. I've forgotten who's who! But I guess I just need to take a look at your character post over at HR to remind myself.
Very wordy this time, but necessary to explain the next test and the elimination round. That's gonna be cool. It'll be very interesting to see who's eliminated.
I wish I could be concerned about Sasuke, but I still think he's a jerk. I feel for Sakura, she actually likes the guy and shows him her real feelings, but he just tells her to shove it.
Kabuto is quite interesting. He does this on a regular basis, I suppose to test the abilities of whoever Orichimaru wants him to test. But he always quits so he can do it again. I bet Kabuto could pass very easily if he wanted to. I can't wait to see him in action again.
I am quite anxious to see the next chapter, to see how Sasuke wins.

You're in luck then Sarah With all that you have told me that you liked about Kabuto, I don't think he will disappoint you at all. Responding to your comments about Chapters 65 & 66 > (MAJOR SPOILERS for anybody who haven't read these chapters yet:) >>> That's one of the reasons I did a character rundown at HR. You'll get to know them all soon enough, though.
I think the Hokage did a good job of putting the drama into this tournament. It's not just a tournament; it's also to show off the abilities of the respective villages' young ninja to bring in more "business." I always like smart writing like that; I don't just want a "random tournament" you know? I want it to mean something and this one certainly does...
As for Sasuke, yeah he IS a jerk. LoL. But you know how some girls like bad boys... but bear in mind Sasuke is on a mission to avenge his whole clan against a mass murderer... his own brother. So I'm sure he's a deeply disturbed kid.
Yeah, it looks like Kabuto has been doing this for Orochimaru since he was a kid.
You won't be disappointed next month.

By the way guys - I scanned something for you guys, and I think you will all enjoy it. It is a chart of the hand signs the shinobi in Naruto's world use in sequence in order to concentrate on beginning and activating spells (special techniques) using their own chakra. They are based on the Chinese Zodiac. There are no real spoilers associated with this chart aside from an ability that Sasuke demonstrates early in the series; it's just a cool chart. Just be careful not to injure your hands trying to mimic these signs View the ChartEdit: It was resized by Photobucket to be rather small: If you want a bigger version just send me a PM and I'll send it along with one of the chapters.

Great chart. I'm glad you posted it. Now maybe I want be so lost when they use them in the comic. You know me. I can use all the help I can get. ;D If we try them, will they work for us? ;D Shan

I finally got caught up through Ch. 8. Must admit, I rather like the master ninja. Mainly because this title needed somebody that can put Naruto in his place. Which he does really well. I like the way he goes from laid back to stern taskmaster. Anybody that can read and kick Naruto's butt at the same time is cool by me. Still not sold on the other team members yet, though, but it's possible later Naruto chapters may explore them in greater detail. Wouldn't mind reading this further. I'm intrigued enough so far.
