I might as well add you to the Club membership then Steve, if you're intrigued enough to go on past Chapter 8 Hope you don't have any objections against that? I'm really glad you are liking it so far. And yes I agree that Kakashi is rather cool. 8) I'll go ahead and send you chapters 9-15. Edit: And they're sent. If you seem to be missing any parts, Steve, just let me know.

Yeah, Phil, that's okay. And thanks for the next chapters. I'll offer some more comments once I get there.

Okay, you're added Steve. Don't forget if you have any insights or questions that might spoil the story somewhat, you can use the white tags to hide them and Shan, Sarah, and I all can respond to them.

Oh and by the way, I added a close-up detail of the map shown in Ch 9 in case you can't read it too well. And don't worry, a hard-to-read page won't happen again in the series.

And if you have problems understanding the action in Ch 10, all of us did too. That was a confusing action sequence, but Kishimoto gets better at depicting action as he does more chapters.

Welcome aboard Steve! Naruto definitely has its charm, though I'm still leaning towards Bleach more than Naruto. But that's a discussion for another thread.
A few responses to your comments, Phil: You're right - I'm glad he went through all that explaining. It gives more meaning to the tournament and it adds more weight to what they're doing. It really is a life or death situation. And other people are depending on them to win.
I know Sasuke is very driven and has his reasons - that's the only reason I don't hate him completely. But I guess I'm tired of the whole revenge-bit. Seen it too much recently in other stuff.
Which is why, I think, I like 666Satan. It leaves the Sasuke-esque character out. It's just the Naruto-esque and Sakura-esque characters. Though the girl in 666Satan seems more like Nami from One Piece than Sakura.

Steve, you've now got past the big if, starting with chapter 9 things really start to get good. This story is great and has just about everything you could want in a story. I for one will be interested in hearing what you think as you read them, because I have just reached the end of it and I loved it. And I had alot of problems with the action in chapter 10. In fact, Phil had to explain all of it to me. I got lost completely. I think part of my problem with chapter 10 was the fact that I had not read any comics in forever and wasn't use to trying to follow the action. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did. Shan

Welcome aboard Steve! Naruto definitely has its charm, though I'm still leaning towards Bleach more than Naruto. But that's a discussion for another thread. You know, I just got the seventh volume of Bleach this month, and it IS coming very, very close to tying Naruto as a favorite for me. Rurouni Kenshin is still the best, though. >>> I find it VERY interesting you're liking 666Satan so far, maybe I will have to try reading another chapter sometime later. And I agree about the Nami similarities.

If my memory serves me correctly, you've read the first three volumes right? Want me to send you the fourth volume chapters (Starting with Ch. 28?) Want me also to add you the Club membership? You seemed to like Narutov ery much in another thread.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow I just finished chapter 33 and it was great, a very good story all the way. The guy really knows how to write a good one. Now it is time to pick up Bleach and read some more on it. Shan

Did Phil just say that Bleach is getting close to tying with Naruto?! But I agree, RK is the best... er, well, next to Bastard. ;D >> Give it a try. You never know. I've only read 3 chapters and those are my feelings on it.

Okay, finally caught up to Ch. 12. Overall, have to admit this story is finally picking up. Real villains, serious action, and more character development for the group is always good. > I am loving the Kakashi vs. Momochi fight so far. Especially since we learn more about Kakashi than he's allowed himself to reveal so far. Also helps that he has a most interesting power. I like the way the background just slowly and methodically unfolds.
Gato appears to be the Lex Luthor of the Naruto universe, which is interesting enough for now. Why do I get the feeling he's going to be a major problem for the village eventually?
But mainly, I like that the kids are out of the village and getting into trouble. It's really clear that the outside world is a very dangerous place and that the group is going to struggle just to survive. Naruto's healing factor will probably be needed a few times the way this is going...
Shan, I see your problems with the action in Ch. 9. I managed to follow it, but took slow and careful reading to get through it. I wonder if it was supposed to look confusing and complicated, as it shows just how far out of their league the ninja cadets are. Interesting stuff so far. Will read more soon, probably.

Shan: a darn good tale wasn't it? I bet you were surprised a couple of times... weren't you? ;D Sarah: Well it's not QUITE there, but VERY close. But Bleach has a very cool modern tone to it that most comics I read don't have. It feels like the real world. >> As for Satan666, okay, I will. << Steve: Thanks for continuing to post your thoughts and your reactions. I know this is something a bit different for you but I'm glad you are enjoying it regardless. I would have enjoyed hearing your opinions even if you had not liked it but of course, it's all the more better if you DO like it. Responses to your comments on Chs 9-12: > I agree with you about the kids getting into some real danger being a good thing for the story development. Chapters 1-8 were more or less the introduction to the whole manga. Now that we all know the main characters, on with the story, right? ;D
I think that neither Kakashi or Zabuza will disappoint you. And I also like the way the story develops gradually. Nothing's too rushed. Sometimes the pace might be kind of slow, but not often.By the way, the storyline is not over with Ch 15, I just thought it was a good stopping point in sending you e-mails. So let me know if you intend to read all the storyline way through (to Ch 33) and I'll just go ahead and send you the rest that I have scanned, if you think your mailbox can handle it. Oh, and I think you're right about the action in Chs 9-10, I think Kishimoto intended to convey a kind of quick ninja combat just to show us that speed is a BIG factor in this world. Still doesn't mean it was any less confusing, though, that's for sure! This is one of these battles that you understand much better animated, actually, but I guess that's true for all action. Phil

from the anime, i can definitely tell u things will get hairier for the kids & that teacher of theirs.
from i think u can see that characters are more than initial impression - this kind of unfolding is quite common for manga & anime, which makes the main character as exciting as ever even when the story has progressed very far. such things make me prefer manga over comics anytime everytime.

Well, America was always a nation that prided itself on getting things done in a hurry. Why should their comic story-telling be any different?
Japan obviously has a different philosophy of living, and their stories reflect that.
It's a pretty interesting thing.

Okay, finally got a chance to start reading this. Thanks, Phil. Only got through the first story, and works well enough as an intro. Naruto is actually a well thought out character from what I've read so far. His motivations make sense to me, which is more than I usually say for a lot of US characters. Can't say that I'm a huge fan yet, but you're starting to convince me. Let you know once I read the rest. Yeah, it's an amazing story, one that keeps me interested, and has for the past year. So interested I've skipped sleeping just to wait for, and then translate a chapter. It's that addicting. I haven't found another manga that has made me feel like this yet, but I'm still looking... I'll let you know if I find another worthy manga to read .
