This thread exists to allow the players of Awakening to discuss what they plan to do in the game, and otherwise generally chat about it in an out of character fashion. This will help prevent clutter in the main story thread, and may be useful for keeping notes and discussing group tactics.
This thread is intended for the use of players only. If you are not playing, please use the questions thread to ask any questions or make any comments you might have.

Remarks:
In Elliots set-up I cannot see a 'Bedsheet' - so Rasidar would have to take the blanket, as Cedric did (who defined it as woolen in absence of any description) Or was it my mistake in assuming being covered by the blanket? (But then my introduction would be wrong, as the itching from the straw would be gone) Either way - there is a conflict that should be resolved. (To me 'bedsheet' infers 'linnen')
Cedric being an Albino is a priori author's knowledge. Whether the word 'Albino' is known, or whether such people are commonly known, could be debated - I would like it to be a rare pecularity, something strange, remarkable (think alone of the red eyes).

No problem, Glance. I needed something to call Cedric, not knowing his name. There are four men in the room, so needed something specific to call him. But since you've introduced yourself, that won't be a problem from here on out. I figure any description of the room is up to El, though.

It's a blanket not a sheet, yes. Unless Steve wanted to do something that made a difference though, I decided to just let the game flow rather than picking up on it.

I didn't. It was an error.

We need to agree on a tense to write in - I followed the first in writing past tense (though personally I would have preferred present tense - note for future games: Set in advance), Shan writes present tense.

Whatever suits you guys is fine by me. I'm just giving you the props to play with, basically

But not each player his/her own, or?

I have a tendency to start in present then switch to past. So then I go back and rewrite it in past.
Will writes in past.
I don't really see it as an issue, though. The points are still made. How it is written is a reflection of people's writing styles. But if it bothers people, we should agree on a tense.

Up to you guys, Glance. You can each decide for yourself, or agree on a single approach. The important thing to me is that you all enjoy the game I try to avoid making rules or imposing conditions where I don't have to and don't need to. So from my POV, anything that is not directly related to the system or has no important impact on the game is entirely up to the players

Your position is clear to me Elliot.
I am trying to fathom the co-players opinions.
I admit, it irritates me slightly when reading a number of consecutive posts, which change tense. If there is a consensus to uniform time, I'll adjust to either tense. If there is a consensus to mixed tenses, I'll probably switch to present tense.

OK, sorry, but i'm confused again. Is this suppose to be happening to us at the moment or is it something in the past that we are telling? Are you actually carrying out the conversations or are we telling someone about having them? I am not a writer, so I know my posts will seem odd to all of you who are, but just tell me what you want and I will do my best to write it in form with everybody else. Shan

Will votes for past tense. I'm fine with either, though I do have more training in writing past tense.
However, I don't want to force anyone to write in a way that is awkward for them.

Shan - usually when a group of players meet face-to-face, they speak in present tense. ie. "My character is doing this," or "My character is attempting to do that."
But since we're posting, it can be done differently. Especially since we're adding thoughts, something that doesn't normally come up in live play.
Will says that writing in past tense makes it easier for him to summarize and clarify what his character is doing and thinking as well as what other people are doing.

A story can be told in either, past or present tense, that has nothing to do with your ability as a writer, Shan. I am used to writing in present (see Glance's Prime), most prefer past tense for story writing though. In a RPG I - and that's just me - would prefer present, but, as you see, past is quite possible. Uniformity - well, let's say it's an 'editing tick' of mine.

It's happening now Shan, so present is technically correct. And for a 'non-writer' you're doing very well, trust me *** Tense is not SO important it should be a huge issue, people Let's not agonise about it

Guys... However each of you individually want to write is fine with me. To me, what matters is that the other players and El can understand what you're writing. All of you are writing well so far. I don't see much point in splitting hairs on tense.

LOL, Sarah. I'd suggest that everyone who wants to change skills do it now. I don't think we should open the door unless the group is ready or after a few days, whichever comes first. I want to be sure that everyone who wants a chance to update their skills be able to do so.
