All weapons do SOME damge, Silva - even if it's only your STR rating

Elliot, how would have been the proper way to check out the door to find out it was trapped? I have no idea of how I should have gone about it. Shan

Something like this would work... * Ash approaches the door and checks the door for traps. * It's just a matter of making it clear what you want to do.

Shan...
The two best ways are either:
Story based:
"Ash carefully approaches the door, her lips pursed and her brow slowly furrowing. Crouching down by the door, she precedes to carefully check it for traps."
or the note to GM approach:
(E - Ash is checking the door for traps)
Basically, anything that makes it clear that Ash is performing an action rather than just contemplating one.

Thanks Elliot, and that also applies to any other action that she might perform, right? Shan

LaFille... You have used only 23 of your 24 stat points, so you might wish to change that Other than that, you are fine to go

Thanks Elliot. I was focused in removing skill points so didn't care enough about counting the stats. Reading time, now...

Fille...
You might want to swap something for Read/Write lvl 1, so you can learn spells. Sorry I didn't spot that earlier.

E - when I use mana (or it is used up), should I record it in the character sheet thread. For example, one globe drained me of 5 mana and I have 80 mana - I could write it as 75/80, so I know how much I currently have and how much total I have.

Corrections done. However, just to make sure, the read/write skill level isn't a condition to the spell learning level we can reach, right? For example, with my read/write skill at 1, I'll be up to learn level two spells granted that my spellcraft skill is at minimum 2? Also, if I may suggest, it would be handy to make the rule manual sticky.

I agree about making the rules a sticky thread.
As for read/write, you only need 1 rank to cast spells. It has no bearing on what level you can learn.

Yep. Best to keep everything on the sheet, Silva - not least because it will help the newbies understand exactly what is happening

I need some more help in understanding how skills are actually used in game since we are preparing to leave the room and start using the skills we have. Could somebody tell me how I would go about using Stealth, and Tumble in game play (actual wording in game play). I have no idea how to state that I want to use them or try to use them. Shan

Stealth, I can help out with. In practice, you could use it much like the Hide In Shadows skill from BG2. Stealth is about avoiding being seen so you can spy on someone, sneak past an enemy, set up a sneak attack on an enemy, steal from someone, or things of that nature.
To make it clear, you could make a GM notation such as...
(E - My character will use Stealth to sneak past the monster.)

Right. Tumble would just be 'I use Tumble to get around behind the Fire Giant while he is pulverising Rasidar' ;D

*laugh* As long as Rasidar keeps that big thing from killing me, I think I can handle that. ;D Thanks to you both for the answers. Maybe I will eventually understand and stop having to ask so many questions. Shan

Will: Using stealth and tumble is all well and good, but sometimes roleplaying calls for a more extravagant use of skills. For example: while Ash is tumbling behind the fire giant, and Rasidar is getting smashed by it, Stelrein may use his read/write skill to write a large legible haiku on the wall, like so:
The giant does smash The knight so very gallant As Ash will tumble
If my ability is high enough in writing, Cedric who is across the room may read the haiku and attempt to use his singing skill, in order to distract the giant. If this is then successful, Ash may try to use her climb skill to scale the fire giant and do some bashing on the top of his head.
Sarah: I married a genius, eh? A funny guy at least. ^_~
