Thanks Steve. I guess I'm just worried that no one likes this, and we put a whole lot of work into it. I just need to be patient.
And Will says that he cut out a lot of stuff because this is a PG board. Just imagine probes.... ^_~

Heh. All the fun applications of future hardware. ;D
One possibility I'm thinking of is an information security specialist. Imagine someone whose job it is to protect the integrity of a computer system, except he's trying to keep out Mind Tech as well as computer hacking. Would something like a Mind Firewall be possible as a Mind Tech skill?

mr grey, the questions u ask start to remind me of Ghost In The Shell universe, where everyone has a cyberbrain & people going for cyborgised bodies is nothing new - much like today's plastic surgery.

Steve - thank you. I am looking for more Mind Tech powers... would you have any ideas as to the definition of Mind Firewall...?
Will has an idea that it's a 2 for 1 exchange. You use 1 MT point and a person would then have to use 2 MT points to break through the firewall. What do you think of that?
For example, you use 5 points, they would have to use 10. And that's before they attempt whatever mind power they want to do.
And the other question is how long would it last? Till breached? For a couple of hours... days?

Jang: Ghost In The Shell handled it pretty well, true. Might have influenced my thinking subconsciously, though it wasn't on the surface of my mind when I started asking. I think when dealing with SF, it's important to ask how tech advancements might affect society and people. If you've got a guy who can hack into a computer with his brain, it makes sense that someone would develop a countermeasure. There's always going to be people trying to hack into systems, and people trying to protect their data. I don't see that race ever going away. Sarah: I think the 2-1 method works fine for me. It's reasonably simple for players to learn/apply but not infallible. Duration... hmm. I'd go for until breached or deliberately shut down, simply because I can't see it being practical in the future otherwise.

That's what we were thinking as well - the firewall will last until breahced or turned off by the creator.
Hopefully we'll do some updates tomorrow.

All right first post time!
Hey this is Silva's hubby and since she's been having wrist problems I've decided to try my hand at the posting...ing...ness?
Anyway, the reason for my post is that I'm currently working on an expansion section to New Home. It involves customizing your own ship/station.
I was just wondering if anyone had any more ideas to add. These are the general subjects I've came up with so far. Each subject will be broken down further later.
They are: Controls, Engines and Fuel, Armored Hatches, Armory, Astrometrics/Research Lab, Bio Lab/Habitat, Brig, Cargo Hold, Crew Quarters, Docking Devices, Escape Pods, Flight Deck, Galley, Luxury Quarters, Medical Bay, Merchant’s Area, Recreation Deck, Repair Bay, Robot Cargo Hold, Advanced Shielding, Auditorium, Back-Up Life Support, Combat Thrusters, Decoy, Extra Ammo Storage, Extra Fuel Tank, Fueling Center, Hull Plating, Masking Unit, Quarantine Fitted, Scanning Devices, Security Locks, Self Destruct, Stealth Unit, Toeing Utilities, Transportation Network, Ammo, Bombs, Guns, Missiles, and Weapon Station
Um...that made a messy post. Well hopefully you guys can sort through the mess. ^~^

All right ran all the ideas past Sarah and here's what she says.
She wasn't counting on teleporters. As for the Astrogation I was counting on Astrometrics to cover that. I know they're roughly different and we'll probably allow who ever to own the ship call it whatever they want. As for rapid fire we will probably not go with since we want to make sure the weapons are balanced. However that did give me another idea. It would probably involve unloading your entire payload on a target. The targeting computer is a good idea. I think it will let the computer use the weapon system at no bonus. It would probably be more for the crew who is understaffed. As for the Holo-deck Sarah says it will just be holograms.
Thanks for the imput.

Astrogator/Astrogation is the standard SF term, so I tend to prefer it I figured there might be a program for it on the computer in case any or all robots are out of action. The targetting computer sounded cool, as it's the thing Buck Rogers & Luke Skywalker switch OFF in order to win their fights ;D Seriously - it's good for a crew who is hopeless in ship gunnery. Talking of - will the mothership be big enough to carry an X-Wing equivalent or two?

I forgot we called the robot skill astrometrics. I'll probably go with Astrogation for the ships.
As for the mother ship, hehe.
Let's just say that the smallest flight deck would probably hold about five small ships.
Only small ships will go in the flight decks. Anything larger will have to dock on the side of a ship. Of course you could always combine a flight deck with docking connections to hold quite a bit of small fighters.

With ten characters, we'll only need ten ships. And I doubt all of those will see action, as it's unlikely everyone on the team will have piloting skills. That said, I hope at least a few of us will

Will wanted to point out that all of this ship building and such won't be available in this first run of the game, but will be available afterwards. The exploration ship that the players get doesn't have a flight deck. Besides, there are no small space ships available for the explorers to buy.

My SF instincts getting the better of me, I'm afraid. Seeing all those little ships zoom about blowing each other up industriously always looks so cool on screen ;D

LOL! Very true. And that's the idea, for later. I think we've done a bang-up job of overwhelming people as it is. We'll add ship building later, once the first mission has been completed.... assuming the game ever starts. ^_^

You've got an excellent character description/history. Your skills are fine. You only forgot 2 things:
-A reinforced uniform that has 3 in each defense and a reinforced head gear with 1 environmental.
-20,000 Credits to buy personal gear (armor, weapons, training modules, EHG, etc.)
You don't have to spend the credits to buy stuff, but you do have the uniform and head gear to add to your character sheet, which will give you an AR rating. And list your credits on your character sheet as well.

I was leaving all equipping for the moment. I want to see the other characters, first - skills, that is. So I can plan more accurately.
Edit: He's bound to start with a pair of energy pistols & a sword - prototype version. Beyond that, a lot depends on the other players.

Yeah, I understand about equipping just a few things you know you'll want.
As for the prototype light sword, it deals 4 damage and has 3 attacks. You need at least rank 3 Hand-To-Hand to use it. And it's not for sale in regular stores. You'd be bringing it with you. To keep it from being confiscated, you'd have to pay a bribe of 250 credits. This model can't be improved, but can be used as a model for building future swords. The built-in battery would be used on activation and for however long it's activated. It uses 0.25 for activation then 0.5 for every hour of use. And it'd be a 10 unit battery.
We're creating a page for Specialty Items that players and characters create/invent. This sword will be the first one on it. ^_^

Ah, cool That's a deal, you might say ;D I take it the energy pistols will just be standard cost? If I buy A-class, can I upgrade them myself to C-class with Tech lvl 5 - or rather, can I have done so before arrival?
