At this point, you have to start with the weapon stats you buy. Once the game starts and you have time and equipment, then you can upgrade. So it'd really be better to start with version C if that's what you want. In the long run, you'll end up with a better weapon than if you buy version A and upgrade it to C. Remember, a weapon can only be improved by 5 points and different weapons have different costs.
And as for improving a weapon, Will and I just figured out how your ranks in technician affect the number of improvements you can do. It breaks down to this:
Your ranks in Technician limit the improvement points on a weapon. The max any weapon can be improved is 5, but if you only have a rank of 1, you can only make an improvement of 1 point.
I've updated the technician description to include the above as well as specifications on armor improving.

OK, thanks, Silva Ill start with C class, then - and tweak them in-game

A class is really for those who only have 1 rank in the weapon use and don't want to spend any extra on them. It's also what the military would give out in training sessions.
Will says, "The A class gun is to the military what the hamburger is to McDonald's. It feeds you and tastes okay, but you can buy a whole lot better."

Looks good except your AR. It's written: 7 energy, 7 physical, 8 environmental.

Well, looks like things have slowed down on the New Home RPG.
To tell the truth Sarah is just waiting for characters to be created.
So if anyone is really struggling with creating a character I'm here to help.
If there is something you don't see in the gear or you are intimidated by the gear just ask me what you want and I'll either direct you or help create something for your character. Whatever tickles your fancy.
Also, if there is something you think needs to be made clearer just give me a post.

I've updated the site again. I'm starting to post Non-Player characters that the team will be encountering in Boot Camp, as well as the characters that Will will be playing.

Though sci-fi is quite alien to me, the settings seem interesting; and chapeau! for all the work you've put in. I won't have the time to join at the moment (exams time + various engagements), but would consider getting in later when things calm down. Will you allow players to join after the beginning?

There are a lot of ways to join in once the game has started.
1. You are easily able to join before the team leaves earth, during the boot camp period. I know that there will be a lot of NPCs that could easily be replaced by player characters.
2. If the team is off on this first mission, there are two ways to join in. One would be to take over one of the NPCs. Or an escape shuttle from another mission could crash land where this team is.
3. I do have plans for what will happen after the team finishes this first mission. So there would be a lot of opportunity then to join in.
I do hope time frees up for you and you join in. ^_^

How much help? The game sounds like it would be fun to play, but I have no ideas for creating a character.

You're not alone, Shan. Believe it or not, I'm still struggling myself. I'm trying to aim for a proper SF concept, but everything I've so far come up with feels flat. I do my best work on characters that are complex and conflicted, but still basically heroic. I just haven't hit on that concept or personality that resonates with me yet. Until I get a character to come alive in my head, no point even bothering with stats. I don't want to play the system with a bad character. Right now, I've basically turned away from it a little while and see if an idea develops. Might be something will. It's happened before.

Well Steve, I certainly hope that you think of something you like. I don't like to play flat characters either. You've got plenty of time. I'm not gonna start the game any time soon since there aren't enough players/characters.
Shan - I'd be glad to help you. Let me start with a few questions for you to gauge your interest.
1. Have you read the descriptions for each race? 2. Have you read the character creation guides for each race?
If not, don't worry. I can understand that it'd be a bit overwhelming. Try to skim through it as it'll help you when creating a personality.
Here are some basic questions to ask yourself about what type of character you'd like to play, regardless of race. These are personality questions.
1. Extroverted or introverted? 2. Energetic or quiet? 3. Likes to fight or likes to talk things through? 4. Is there anything from the past that is haunting them that they are trying to escape from? 5. Does your character have any goals? 6. Are they obsessed with anything?
Take a look through the skill list and see if any of them interest you. If you like a few, work them into your character's history.
I'd suggest playing a human, if none of the other races interest you.
Clones are created to be really good at specifics task, but can never grow. Robots have their own special areas of knowledge as well as weapons. Cyborgs are humans who almost died, but went through the cybernetic procedure to stay alive.
And as always, feel free to ask me questions.

Thanks Sarah. To answer what I can of your questions. Yes, I have read through both. They gave me info and started me thinking but that is about all. I am having trouble converting it to a character for me though. I guess basically I'm not getting a personality from it for a character that I would play, something that would feel right for me if that makes any sense. With these, I can answer the first 3, but have no idea about the others. First one - probably extroverted - I would have more fun with her. Second one - probably energetic - if quiet she would probably be getting into things quietly and getting into mischief and leaving other chars wondering what was going on. Third one - she would avoid fighting if at all possible - not sure how great she would be at talking her way out of situations That is basically where it all ends. I can't come up with any kind of background for her. As for races, a human probably because the only other one that interests me is a robot and I don't see it functioning on its own. I see it more belonging to someone and working with them or causing them trouble at times. It would get directions from them but it would kinda do things its way or on its on at times that would either help the person or create mischief for them. As for skills, weapons, and other stuff, I'm kind lost right now, because she has no personality and I have no idea what to do with her. Does that help you in any way to see where I am and what problems I am having? Shan

I think I see where you are. You know you want an extroverted, energetic and diplomatic person. So let's focus on more questions for personality/background, since it sounds like you'll be a human. Though just so you know, robots do have Artificial Intelligence. They can operate very much on their own, though are still reliant on humans. But humans are reliant on each other as well.
But I digress. Lets fill out your character more. Answer the following questions as best as you can. If you're at a loss, we can discuss it. Remember, keep in mind that this person has volunteered to go out into space, to explore an unknown planet. That should have some bearing on the person’s personality.
Age: How old are you? How old do you act? How old do others perceive you to be?
Gender: I'm going to assume you're going to play a female, but what kind of female are you? Are you prissy and concerned with your looks? Are you proper and hold yourself in that fashion? Are you a tomboy and like to play in the dirt? Are you a bubbly airhead? Or more bookish and serious? There are many other possibilities as well as combinations, try to choose something to define how feminine your character is.
Physical appearance: hair color, eye color, height, weight. You can go into more detail such as ethnicity, skin color, clothes, and mannerisms.
Mind: How smart are you? If you are smart, do you flaunt it or are you modest or somewhere in between? Are you creative or analytical, or maybe a combination? Do you have an analytical mode and a creative mode? Do these modes conflict within you? Do you have a scientific mind? A tactical mind? A musical mind? There are many more options, try to find a couple that you like.
Body: Much like mind, decide what kind of body you want. Big and tough? Small and petite? Small, but strong? Chubby or thin? Fat or anorexic? Agile or slow?
Environment: What kinds of places does this person like to be in? A library, a shopping mall, outdoors, sporting places, home, internet, etc? You can choose several places, and these environments will also define the character’s hobbies & interests.
Hobbies/Interests: Define exactly what the character likes to do or is just interested in. Music, singing, sports, art, reading, writing, building, fighting, etc.
Family: The people around you also shape quite a bit of who you are. What is your mother like? How does she treat you? Does she pay attention to you or ignore you? Your father? Any siblings? Are they all still alive? How old? How well do you get along with them? Think about your own family for answers.
That should really get you started. If you can answer these, it should be pretty easy to pick skills.

Thanks Sarah. I think that will help alot. I will look at it more tonight and tomorrow and see what kind of answers I can come up with. Maybe if I can get those answered then I can find a personality for her that will be fun to play.

Just reporting in Sarah. I haven't had alot of time to work on characters lately with the girls being out of school for spring break. Now that they are back in school and things have settled down some, I hope to get something done that I can show you and ask some questions about.

Hey Steve I was wondering if one of the reasons why you're having difficulty creating a character is due to the fact that you're not able to create a character that has a good motivation to go on a mission like this.
If that's the case I do want to add in that this system is actually a very narrow scope of the world. If you do have a character idea that doesn't seem to fit tell me about it. As it is now that I've got the basic custom ship expansion ideas all writen out I can now go back and fix a few implausable points in the history.
I'm currently toying with the idea of making one of Eliot's character's family members a historical figure.
