This is a general thread dedicated mainly to what movies you have seen lately for flicks. They can be old or brand new. Doesn't matter if you saw it on TV, cable, PPV, DVD, theatre or VHS -- or even Beta, if you have that! Don't matter if you rented it, saw it over a friend's house, or actually bought it. Whatever. Okay, so here's the question -- what have you seen lately for movies?

Last thing I saw in theaters was King Kong. A decent, solid film, but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype for me.
I recently saw Revenge of the Sith on DVD again too.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. delightful movie though sadly not doing well in the cinemas in town due to the brit jokes - totally incomprehensible to simple folks like us. ;D
i also watched Primer on dvd. my goodness, that movie is so far among the best film i've watched in 2005! it's so cerebral! there is still hope for american film-making.

recently watched "The 40 Year Old Virgin Ahhh, I loved that movie. Probably funniest movie I saw this year on DVD. I saw Band Camp -- and was actually surprised that it did not suck. It was good, but not as good as American Pie 1 and American Wedding. Band Camp was better than AP2, though, I thought. Serenity was pretty good. Must Love Dogs was better than expected. Good romantic comedy. Ummm.....whatelse? November was weird & good -- but here's a warning: it's only 1 hour 8 mins short.

Saw Batman Begins and Ep 3 again recently. I almost saw Serenity but since the person who had the DVD got it through some unsavory means I couldn't in all moral good watch it.

I just saw Dark Water (remake w/ Jen Connelly) -- which was actually quite good.
I also have 2046 on rental, which I've yet to watch.

Hey, how did you like Narnia? It was okay, to be honest i think I was expecting LOTR quality. it didn't feel epic IMO. i agree...imho an average quality movie...even if my expectations weren't LOTR levels, i was expecting more, so it was a disapointement overral. my wife liked it more than i, lol. the story is rather one dimension without any kind of depth, the characters don't have much space to be developped, the "everyone who dies can come back" situation is rather plain, actors direction rather averish at best...all in all the more interesting still was some of the visual effects, always copying much of the LOTR environments/moments... regards

I watched The Buffy movie the other day and i thought it may of been the worst piece of crap i ever saw, does anyone know how it went so wrong, It can't of been Joss surely? were there problems with the studio?

Dom, I haven't seen the Buffy film, but I have heard about what happened. I've watched a lot of Buffy documentaries that have shed light on this.
As best as I've been able to tell, the director and some of the actors were at fault. Basically, the director didn't shoot what Joss wrote as he envisioned it. Joss also had problems with certain actors (most notoriously Donald Sutherland) who would act his script wrong and rewrite the dialogue wholesale without consulting him.
According to Joss, this sort of thing happened to him a lot in the past. This is why he directs his own movies, as he did with Serenity. Joss is on record (though I'm paraphrasing here) as saying to the effect of "If the director is going to ruin my script, it might as well be me who's going to ruin it". ;D
I can't speak for the quality of the film itself... but knowing Hollywood? I can believe it...

The movie did suck, a lot.
And to be honest, I don't think it was entirely the director and actor's faults, however I do believe it would have been better if it was closer to what Whedon wanted.

Watched Kill Bill again today. Can't wait until tomorrow when we're having direct TV installed, and 3 free months of Starz, HBO, and the other premium channels.
EDIT: I strangely liked the Buffy movie it was in the so bad it was good department, plus I think it has Ben Affleck's first movie appearance (not good I know but hey funny how Joss and him have minor ties), as a basketball player.

Saw Serenity. It was okay, not as good as the show because of the fundamental structure of movies. I got lost a bit due to Shepard Book not being there, otherwise I really think if given about 12 more episodes Serenity would've been a great second half to Firefly's only season.

I went and gave Casanova a look in the theater today. Rather a fun little film, all in all.

Movies I saw on DVD today: --Wedding Crashers: pretty funny. Good movie. --Broken Flowers: a very good, offbeat comedy/drama movie w/ Bill Murray. --The Cave: that sucked.
