In Cologne, the Historical Archive has collapsed. The whole building.
Beneath it, there was a tunnel being built for a new underground line.
It was one of Germany's biggest archives, containing several very old documents.
I'm still quite shocked.
It is unclear whether people are still missing, but the majority has been able to escape.
I'm shocked not only because soo much might be lost, but I'm also very angry that there had been signs that something was wrong - since last September, I heard in the news. Which have been ignored.

I heard it on the news to today, I hope that there are still survivors under the ruins though

Shocked, saddened - and stunned that German engineers (Widely held to be amongst the best in the world) could make such a catastrophic mistake! Let's hope there are no human casualties.

Wow that's very bad and very strange news...I hope that first human lives can be saved. And that then most information can be saved.

So it would be the metro construction work that would have caused this? I hope that indeed no lives are lost and that the treasures can be recovered...

All this happened just 24 hours ago - so anything pertaining to cause(s) is mere and wild speculation at the moment. But then the press is always looking for a quick (and scandalous) answer...
The Cologne region and municipality (nowadays a city of 1 million people) has a tradition and reputation for for - let's say 'being favorable to one another in fostering mutual interests'. 'Favorable' meaning trading favors, not cash (nasty people still plainly call it corruptive). That also is speculative at this point, of course.
The valuable documents of the historic city archive (and we're talking a city over 2 milleniums old!) will in all probability be retrievable, as the building crashed, but did not burn. Damages there will be though.
As to the life toll, it is still unclear - as it was a public building, no one knows exactly how many were in it, or right in front of it, in a lively pedestrian shopping zone. There were some people warning when sounds of cracking appeared, and some people evacuated on the run - but the whole affair seemingly only took three minutes.
While German building codes are strict, and German civil engineer education is good - we're talking here of a historic building, and the maintenance of public buildings unfortunately is not as well regulated as their construction (A few years ago a public ice skating hall in Bavaria had its roof crushed through snow weight killing a number - reason found was an original design weakness not discovered through minimum standard safety inspections).

I can imagine where historical building safety wouldn't be perfect; aside from cost, the balance between conservation and renovations to put those buildings up to the modern standards must be a topic of debates. The loss of the building itself must be a shame, too. Snow-caused roof crashes we knew our share last winter too, here... Though given the operations that were put in place after, it might well have been a matter of the standards themselves not being high enough yet.

Through the press it can be seen that there had been signs of something not being well. Houses had shown cracks - and that since a few years (the whole digging for the underground railway lasts a few years now). Only very few hundred meters away an old church had heen haviong the "Tower Of Pisa"-syndrome, so to say , but no-one was really worried. Instead, everybody involved with the digging said "our work could not have been the cause". They have been ignoring clear signs for a few years now, all along the digging sites.

When I cam back from the interim agency, I saw a woman in front of me, on her bike and she closed her eyes en fell on the ground. Just like that. I rushed to her to see if I could help her, she made strange noises so I guessed she had epilepsy, so I tried to keep her on her side . Later I noticed she had a head wound, prolly from falling and hitting the ground. It wasn't that bad. When I opened her jacket, to give her some air, I noticed a pink ribbon, the symbol of breast cancer and she had a removed breast. I started talking to her, while someone else called the ambulance and the cops and another man gave her a blanket and a woman gave me a kids jacket to place under her head. After a few minutes, she regained her consciounce back and I asked her if she knew what had happened, what her name was and so on, untill the ambulance came. Did I good or could I have done more? I ask that cuz after the incident someone very close to me gave me loads of critisism while I feel that the little i did was at least more then what he did.

I think you did good, Gal. You stayed with her, tried to help her as best you could and made sure she was alright until the ambulance arrived. Without medical training yourself, I see nothing else you could have done, honestly.

You did more than enough, Gal. I'd be very happy that someone like you was around if I was the "victim".
