Since Elliot isn’t around I guess I’ll be the first to post this. Currently listening to the latest ‘Iron Maiden’ CD “A Matter of Life and Death”. The song ‘The Longest Day’.

Hmmm... Has a very old fashioned sound, Riverman. Not quite my thing, but not bad Cool , btw , are you a fan of fluffy pop by girls that are only physically pretty and not super talented or , you ever listen to Skunk Anansie or music by woman who aren't the "norm" attractive? what I'm asking is do you listen to woman singers because of the way they look or their actual talent /character they portray in the music.

Tracy Chapman , Ani Difranco, Skin , Fiona , Tori , or brittany spears jojo Christina Aguilara , pink , from those few names which would be closest to your tastes ....musically?

Riverman... I don't care what the singer looks like, only whether they are talented or not. And whether they do a style of music I like, of course In terms of your lists, I'm not even sure why you put some of those people together as their styles and talent levels are nothing alike. Out of all of them, Christina has probably the best voice, but almost no good songs so I rarely listen to her. Britney has a good voice, but after the dire rubbish that was her last album I only rarely listen to her, either... Neither Jojo nor Pink could sing if their lives depended on it. I am definitely not a fan of either. Of the other list, I don't like Tracy Chapman's voice (I think I recall who she is...), I am not a fan of Fiona Apple or Tori Amos because I don't like their musical style. Skin is awful and Ani DFranco I don't recall enough about to comment on. At the moment, my favourite young female singers are probably Avril (Definitely not conventionally attractive), Skye Sweetnam (Still looks like a kid), Joss Stone (Attractive, granted), Hayley Westenra (Not conventionally attractive), Lene Marlin (ditto), Natalie Imbruglia (Definitely not to my taste, though considered beautiful by many) and Alexz Johnson (Looks like a kid). I will have to grant you Jennifer Love Hewitt is hot though, and she is another of my favourite singers. I find it a bit weird to classify singers by attractiveness level, honestly. As a general rule, if they do very good pop, rock or pop-rock then I'm there. If something in the style of music appeals, I'm still there. If I think they have a truly great voice, I'll get them singing the phone book ;D

I love fiona and tori and skin and tracy Fiona has such a sultry genuine voice for a skinny girl of her age. Tori has an awesome voice and great piano and songwriting skills Skin and Skunk have made some of the best and underrated pop songs in decades. Tracy is an awesome folky style singer/writer. Regina Spektor is just very creative and original and has beautiful style and a voice that is clear as a bell and complex in emotion. Do any of the female singers you've mentioned write their own songs? It seems to me that you go for style over substance.

Hayley does not write her own songs. Other than that... You'd be entirely wrong Several of those play instruments, too Are you sure you are not mistaking an offbeat style for actual talent? ;D

In your room - Depeche Mode. Going to dig out my mothers Tori Amos records after this, to check out what you're all talking about (when it comes to her).

You'd be entirely wrong Several of those play instruments, too Are you sure you are not mistaking an offbeat style for actual talent? ;D Good question, I think that an "offbeat" (original) style is part of the actual talent package. Are you saying originality is overrated? I guess some of us are pleased by what we as a culture see as talent and others seek out originality? I'm only curious because most of these girls seem to be teenie bop music , I guess I just figured you to be a more of an adult contemporary kind of guy ;D
