Shan - The Tsunade story is still my favorite in the whole series. I agree with you, it was a magnificent storyline. It didn't only introduce us to a great character in Tsunade, but it also did an amazing job in developing Naruto's character as well. I mean, I didn't even think it was possible to make Naruto any more interesting, but Kishimoto really did a bang-up job here.
It still gives me chills every time I re-read the Kabuto and Tsunade fight, and how Kabuto was moving around Tsunade at a faster speed, using his chakra to "severe" Tsunade's nerve system. And Kabuto thinks he's got this battle won, and he chuckles and pushes up his glasses, then all of a sudden POW!!! Tsunade gets him in the back of the head. How ya like that Kabuto!?? Okay, sorry, I'm an action freak.
And then how Naruto finally figured out an alternative way of mastering the Rasengan to defeat Kabuto. And then Kabuto stands up, you think "oh no, it didn't work," and Kabuto begins chuckling and healing himself ... then all of a sudden he goes "oh crap" when he realizes he's out of chakra, and falls over. I just loved it. I also really started to like Kabuto better as a "bad guy," y'know, at this point. I was happy Kishimoto finally gave us a "real fight" where we learned more about Kabuto's abilities.
Shan, I also really enjoyed how Kishimoto wrapped this storyline up nicely by tying the conclusion to how Naruto first met Tsunade, too, and with the kiss as the twist this time. I have that page in color, by the way, if you would like to see it Shan.
Should have sent it with the other colored stuff, but I didn't think of it.
I'm glad you liked it Shan!

Continuing spoilers on Tsunade storyline
Shan -
Oh yeah, I wanted to mention that I absolutely LOVED the part where Orochimaru asks if the deal's off, Tsunade wipes her tears away, then glares at them and the next thing you know... she's in the air, and BOOM - earthquake!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Hehe.
I think Tsunade is the best female character with super-strength I've ever seen.

Phil - hope you'll be able to still get a few things. Sucks about the gas, I sent you a PM about what you can do to report it, but like with all things government, I don't know if it'll do any good.
I did get SJ - and I took time to read it. ^_^ I needed a break from packing.
Here are my few thoughts on Chapter 69 & 70
Cool fights. What else can I say? The bugs creeped me out. The golem trick was cool. I'm still having trouble with people's names... But thankfully I know the next two opponents - Sakura vs. Ino. I'm looking forward to that.
Pretty cool spell that sealed up the curse mark. Wonder how long it'll last. Good to finally understand Orochimaru's interest in Sasuke a bit better. Of course, I still don't care much about Sasuke. He seems even more two-dimensional with his single-minded desire and drive - now he'll be going after Orochimaru.
*sigh* wish SJ had more than two chapters at a time, but at least it's better than one chapter that SB has...
On an off topic, Death Note reads so much better in Viz' translations than the net. It'll be one to go on the list to get as soon as I'm able to get into another series, though that may be more than a year from now. But I'm pretty happy getting Bastard, Rurouni Kenshin, SJ and SB regularly, and then Bleach when I can.

Tsel - yes, we knew that already - especially me! ;D That's my birthday too when it's coming out. Heh heh. Thanks though Sarah - chapter 69 & 70 I have a feeling you'll enjoy the Sakura - Ino fight.
Yeah, the fights this month were kind of preludes to the real fights - y'know, the rest will be pretty intense now. It was a good quick look at the abilities of Shino and Kankurou though wasn't it. I haven't gotten Shonen Jump yet but I should on Tuesday.
By the way, wasn't Orochimaru delightfully villainous this month? Even Kakashi is scared of him.I'm not too surprised that Death Note reads better on Viz's translations. That's the most wordy manga I've ever read.

Yes, I'm certainly looking forward to next month's SJ. Which reminds, I gotta remember to change the mailing address - so many things to do! *sigh*
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Will's friends recation to Death Note. He always borrows my SJ, and I finally got him to give SB a try. Gave him the first two issues. If he doesn't wanna read it, that's fine, but he's atleast giving it a shot.
Anyway, I think he'd like it, maybe enough to get it on his own, which would be cool for me because he'd let me borrow it. That's my hope anyway. ^_~

^_^ Well, I got my Shonen Jump magazine for this month and it didn't seem like Death Note varied that much from the online version, but I liked that. They DID seem to make it a bit more "American" though in the way they talked, less stiff dialogue or something like that. Naruto though, I still definitely prefer the online version better. In fact, I'm thinking about printing out my Naruto chapters from the computer and inserting them in my SJ magazines. -_- And Shan, I got your e-mail. I'm glad you are finally with me now on Naruto ^.^ So that was all the "wow, wow, wow" was about!!! And here I thought you were just incredibly impressed with my comments above. I'm looking forward to talking about the latest chapters with you. Phil

Phil Here are a first few comments as I read back through from the Tsunade story. Spoiler: I guess the thing that surprised me the most when Naruto, Jiraiya and Tsunade got back to the Leaf Village was the fact that Shikamaru had been made a chuunin. Yeah, I know they said you didn't have to win just show the skills, but I really didn't think he showed an more skill than any of the others.
OK, I was suspecting the part of Tsunade healing Sasuki and Kakashi, but I was surprised when she said what she did about Lee. I was thinking that she would just go in and heal all of them. It did not surprise me though that Lee and Gai decided to go for the surgery. I just knew Lee wouldn't give up that easily and that Gai would back him no matter what. Those 2 make a great team. I like their characters alot. Up until now I had not thought much about Gai but here he went rock solid in my book and I've liked Lee from the start.
I guess the next big thing to me was Sasuke meeting up with the four from the Sound Village that had gone over to Orochi's side. Their strength amazed and surprised me. Was Orochi able to give them that kind of strength or did they get it from the curse. I know they were at level 2 and I am wondering if it gave them more strength.
Here I wondered if Sasuke would give in and go with them. I wondered if his desire for revenge was really that strong. Up until about here, just how bad he wanted revenge hadn't sunk in. Even after reading the rest about him, I am still not sure whether it is revenge or his desire to be like his brother that is driving him. ( i just haven't figured Sasuke out ).
More a little later.

Just thought I'd mention that they did a great job of translating the first two chapters of the Naruto anime on Toonami. It's much better than the captions on the imported anime I got from Japan via e-bay.
They actually kept most of the original Japanese names for the jutsus too. Overall they did a very good job. (Though I don't know about the voices yet, but I'm waiting to hear from my friend about that.)
They also took the blood out (like Iruka and Master Ebisu having noseblood at the sight of Sexy no Jutsu, for example) so it actually is not that bad a show for kids as things stand, either. Of course they won't totally be able to avoid some violence in certain chapters of the series, but still. =)

A few more thoughts after Chouji's battle with Jiroubou. Spoiler:So the group meets up with Kidoumaru next (the spider guy). Sorry, but I wasn't to impressed with this guy. I know he was good and Neji had a real battle defeating him, but this one just was more of a filler to me than anything else.
Now Kiba and Akamaru's battle with Sakon was something else. I never would have believed that Sakon could split like that. That was really cool. To me the others had it pretty easy compared to what Sakon threw at Kiba and Akamaru all the way from fighting them, to splitting, to trying to slip into his body, and who knows what else and just when you think you've gotten away he shows up again. Now tell me that this guy wasn't the worst of the 4. If you do, I won't believe it.
Yeah, Kiba and Akomaru gained my respect just by holding their own with Sakon.
So after this one Shikamaru's battle with Tayuya seemed kinda tame. Pretty good, but still tame compared to the last one.
Now the one with Naruto and Kimimaro was well worth the wait just to see Lee show up. You can't help but cheer there. And Lee drinking sake thinking he is taking his medicine and then getting drunk was hilarious. That was really a good one Kishimoto. Then what does he turn around and do have the Sand come to the aid of the Leaf. Yes! Yes! Yes! That really rocked. It was the absolutely best. It was something that I never expected at all and that made it that much better. More later. Shan

Kakashi's Story Phil I think I've already emailed this to you, but I am going to post it here just in case anyone else is interested. Spoiler: So Kakashi's father was a disgrace to the village because he broke the rules and put the lives of his companions first. This must have been very hard on Kakashi. No wonder he was such a stickler for rules. I got the idea that he wanted to redeem his family name by being the best he could be and always going by the rules. He seemed to have one problem though Obito. Obito was not that rule oriented and seemed to always be breaking one which made Kakashi not think so much of him. At this point he probably wished Obito had been on a different team. But........Kakashi learned something, something very valuable from Obito.
I have to say I admire Obito for standing up to Kakashi the way he did when Rin was taken. He may not have had any strong strengths at that point, but in a way he was even stronger because he felt for his teammate no matter what and he stood up for what he believed. This had an impact on Kakashi and I think it is one reason that he came to respect Obito. He was willing to stand up for what he believed at all costs.
Then Obito risks his life to save Kakashi and Rin. I think they under estimated this guy. There is more to him than any of them seemed to know or maybe it was his caring for his companions that made him what he really was. And it was at the point where Obito said "I am the only one who didn't...... give you a present..... at your Jounin Celebration....right Kakashi? What would be good.... I was thinking.....and now I have come up with it" that I knew where Kakashi had gotten his Sharingin Eye and tears were streaming down my cheeks. And then Obito's love for Rin .......his thoughts of friendship and wish to have been with them longer.....all i could do was sit and cry after this. Man, Kishimoto really threw one at you with this one. I think I have cried over this one more than any other story. This one was really emotional all the way around.

It was something that I never expected at all and that made it that much better. More later. Shan >>> That was the BEST scene in the whole series. (Especially when colored!)
I didn't expect it either and I was so excited by it. It was funny how we used to root against these guys and then we ended up cheering for them when we saw them. I guess it was just fun to finally see them on the side of the angels for once.
Plus I was scared that somebody else would die. (I thought at the time both Chouji and Neji were done for.)
And I agree with you, the Kakashi storyline was highly emotional, but a very good story!

Phil Since I have caught up with you, I've got an idea. ;D Hey, no fair. You're not suppose to run off and hide. It's a good idea really. Since you are already posting 10 comments about each new chapter of Naruto on the Naruto Forum, why don't you just copy and paste them over here too. That way I can comment about your comments. What do you think? Shan
