I actually caught up on some comics last week - SJ and SB as well as Conan and Fables and.... some others I can't remember right now.
Right now I'm working my way through Dark Angel. I finished vol 2 yesterday, will start on 3 today. Then I'll just have 4 and 5 and the series will be finished. I like it, for the most part. This is the first manga of Kia Asimaya that I've read, though I watched Nadesico, which was very hlarious. Anyway, this particular story sometimes reminds me of Bastard, but not as good, and still very different.

September 2nd:
Books of Magic 32-52 Books of Magic Annual 1-2Took a big chunk out of the BoM run. Just started Peter Gross' run on the book, which started with issue #51. I must say that I'm not very impressed with Gross' run so far. The pacing's just way too slow. I hope it gets better because I really like Peter Gross, he's one of my favorite artists, but I'm thinking his writing might not be all that good. Oh well, his run only lasted 25 issues. Let's see, Rieber ended his run well with the Slave of Heavens arc. Also, the stand alone story The Bridge was very good, one of my favorite issues of the series. Rieber's 50 issue run was excellent I should be finished with Books of Magic by next week. My next big run will be Starman, which I've started already, but have only gotten through 8 issues so far. -SHARK DIGGLER

Gross does lose his way a bit, sadly. Not bad, but Rieber is the definitive BoM writer.

It's VERY different. Spencer has kind of built on everything that came before, and I have to admit there hasn't been a Tim Hunter series I haven't enjoyed. I wouldn't try to put them in preferential order. I just hope this isn't the last we've seen of Tim. Or of Spencer, for that matter. He's a good writer

September 7th:
Books of Magic 53-59
You know, I'm starting to warm up to Gross' run a little. One thing I like is that he's been using Cyril a lot. I really like that fat f#ck! I also like the whole "Tim's Other" story, and Sir Thomas is pretty cool as well.
The issue after Holly died in the car wreck was cool, where she made the 'wager' with her friend about The Mummy Man, aka Tim's dad.
Anyway, 16 more issues plus annual #3 and I'm done. -SHARK DIGGLER

September 10th:
Books of Magic 60-75 Books of Magic Annual #3
Finally finished the series. I actually ended up liking Gross' run, there were some very good moments in it. One of my favorite issues was the one where Tim got drunk with Tamlin at the Inn Between, that was awesome. Very touching.
The ending was okay. I wanted more of a showdown between Tim and his Other. Oh well. Barbatos was fun.
So I've pretty much read everything there is to read about Tim Hunter except for the mini Names of Magic. I have that somewhere around here and will get around to reading it soon, but right now I need to take a break from little Timmy.
I've read Hunter: Age of Magic before, but didn't really like it all that much. That was like 3 years ago though, so maybe I'll like it better now that I know more about Tim Hunter. Maybe I'll re-read it again in a few years. -SHARK DIGGLER

Age Of Magic I thought was really good - but then I think it only works if you know Tim. It's absolutely not aimed at readers who know nothing about him.

Incidentally, I Byrne-stole the first Fables graphic novel the other day at Borders. It was very interesting and the writing was smart, but nothing I'd probably get too much into. Sorry, Sarah.

I also couldn't get into into Fables (or Y), which is strange because I've always loved all of of Vetrtigo's Top.

October 6th:
Astonishing X-Men 7-12 Candyappleblack 6-7 Desolation Jones #3 Dogwitch #17 Fables #41 Godland #3 Hellblazer #212 Kabuki 4-5 Lucifer 62-66 Manhunter #14 Mnemovore 1-6 Ocean #6 Powers #12 Strangers in Paradise #76 Swamp Thing 15-20 (Vaughan series) Temporary #4 Ultimate Elektra 4-5 Ultimates 2 #8 Wanted 1-6
Been reading a lot the last few days. Finally got around to reading Wanted which was [Censored]ing great! I hope there's a sequel someday.
Candyappleblack [Censored]ing sucked big dick, just plain awful. I know Sarah really liked this book, but I really don't see how she can. It started out okay then it turned to $hit. Big waste of money.
The second Astonishing arc was average at best. Not sure if I'll be back for season two.
Kabuki #5 wins my bull[Censored]of the year award! $5.99 and we don't even get a [Censored]ing story! Nothing but sketches and pictures! [Censored] you, David Mack! I really like Kabuki, but this made me contemplate whether or not I should keep buying his book.
I'm really liking the current Lucifer arc. It did kinda suck that the main story got interrupted by that Gaudium issue. Kaluta's art wasn't that good, guy should stick to covers. His Gaudium really sucked.
Ultimate Elektra was pretty bad. No more Marvel Mike Carey for me. Maybe. -SHARK DIGGLER

Spellbinders was good, Shark, but Carey doesn't seem to do his best work at Marvel. Astonishing, Lucifer & Wanted - yep, completely agree Did the end of Ocean leave you scratching your head? And if not, can you tell me what the heck it was all about - and more importantly HOW it all happened. Five issues of greatness and a last issue that was utter dreck. I was very disappointed...

Yeah, I liked Spellbinders too. Wasn't great by any means, but it was decent.
I really don't know what to say about Ocean #6 except that it left me kinda confused. Might have to reread the whole series again one day. -SHARK DIGGLER

Phil - Fables isn't everyone's cup of tea, I know that. Thanks for giving it a try. But I gotta say that a lot of people actually didn't like the first story arc. So if you ever get a chance, take a look at the second trade. But I understand if you still don't like it.
Shark - I don't read as many out-there comics as you do, so Candy was something new for me. Kinda like how Will doesn't understand how I like Shaun of the Dead so much when it's just another horror movie to him - well, it's because I don't like horror much at all, but I liked Shaun.
As for me reading comics lately - ha! I think I may have picke dup an issue of SJ and read a few titles, but I'm really backlogged. I haven't even picked up comics for a couple of weeks.

I suggest you pick up a few Y: The Last Man trades

We've been getting the Y trades and enjoying them thoroughly. I think we're on the fourth, though we have up to the 6th volume.
I've been doing pretty good at keeping up with comics lately. Though I think I have an issue of Conan and a few others to read. Don't have my pile close to me so I can't say specific issue numbers.
